> Almost every social platform now ranks posts with links lower than posts that are just statements.

I know this but I still can't bring myself to not add links to most of what I write.

@baldur I don't care how these rankings work. The academic in me feels it is ridiculous to make unsubstantiated claims whenever I post something.

Edit: fixed typos

How does genocide happen in 2024?

It doesn’t, of course. As Graeme Wood from The Atlantic explains, there are only tens of thousands of legally killed children, that’s all.

(Thanks, Graeme, we were all apparently very confused.)

See, y’all were getting worked up for nothing.

@aral I have heard this too...

This analysis from February shows how this is a lame excuse.

»"Now, what we claim is that there is a third kind of human shield," Gordon told CBC News. "That is the human shield that does not volunteer and is not coerced, but just by being where they are, they become human shields. Or more precisely, I would say they're framed as human shields.

Holy crap! They made ordering so complicated now. The usual stuff like going via net banking -> multiple authentication (QR code, SMS) -> sign agreement -> and.... a real ID card check.

But hey, Skatteverket's ID card and Driving Licence doesn't count, even though they are national ID cards. WTF?! :ablobcatbongoangry:

ashwinvis,
@ashwinvis@mastodon.acc.sunet.se avatar

@nlovsund Swedish passport or police issued national ID card, which only citizens are entitled too. A bit discriminatory if you ask me.

If Mozilla wants me to stop using Firefox, building "AI" into the browser is a great way to go about it.

(Note: I'm still using Firefox...)

@dangillmor
As long as Firefox remains open-source, I am not worried. They will most likely add an opt-out switch or if nothing LibreWolf will remove it, I bet.

PSA: Stop calling these: () brackets!

These () are parentheses

These [] are brackets

These {} are curly braces

A problem I have with / : the resize handles of windows are like pixel perfect. There's maybe 3 pixels of space where I can start the drag from, and sometimes the click goes through to an underlying window even though the cursor is a resize handle.

@ashwinvis@mastodon.acc.sunet.se avatar

@nicd
Same here. Idk if it was a regression after Gnome 40; can't recall having this a few years ago.

Meanwhile in KDE one can Alt+Right Click to resize any window without being precise. Would be nice to have this in Gnome.

@willingc on how to keep informed on all these changes and how PSF got an award for being "Wonderfully Welcoming".

PS: Also there was an important bit on how Project Jupyter won the ACM Turing award, I should add

PPS: all of this was CC-BY 4.0 allowing me to share more. Kudos for that!
