Don't listen to me! Seriously! I'm just some dude on the internet. I just talk. They let anyone make an account here. No vetting! So when I talk about Angola prison farm being a slave plantation, you don't have to listen to me. I might just be making it all up!

It's not like I'm a Pulitzer prize winning journalist or anything. You should listen to Pulitzer prize winning journalists instead. One is good, two are better. Like these two:

RynUfe,

@mekkaokereke Angola prison farm literally used to be, once upon a time, a Houma tribal farm, that's my people's og lands. Then as colonization moved in it was stolen and transitioned and became a plantation, then shifted to become the prison complex it is today over time. The field that was the original Houma site is still there, they brought in a group of Houma administrators and elders to do a site visit so they very much know exactly what and where it is. I think about this history a lot.

If #Indigenous people weren't aware, we here in the #IndigenousGulf are building a mf MOUND! A traditional Indigenous earthwork monument is coming to #Bulbancha (#NOLA) in 2024! Build days starting on Saturdays in January!
Also included in the project in the Lafitte Greenway in the Tremé neighborhood: a #stickball field, and #native plant gardens with all sorts of medicinal and practical herbs and plants for all to learn and use.

More info: https://NanihBvlbancha.net

RynUfe,

As we start to have more events and see more printed materials, things feel more and more real...

It is absolutely amazing to me that @decolonialatlas is putting out that huge #Indigenous map and smack dab in the center of their promo is #Bvlbancha.

That spelling of Bulbancha/Bvlbancha is directly from those of us who created the @bvlbanchacollective, to honor the heritage of our founding members, many of whom are also Mvskoke. There are many ways to spell Bvlbancha in anglicized letters, and all are correct.

Happy #IndigenousPeoplesDay2023 !!

RynUfe,

@decolonialatlas
Bulbancha is the most historically notated spelling, as in the Choctaw dictionary for example, and that's why the 'Bulbancha Is Still A Place' zine chose that spelling when they created the zine project ahead of the 300th anniversary of "New Orleans." My friends decided to use a tagline of "NOLA 300, Bulbancha 3000!" #IndigenousGulf #history

RynUfe,

@decolonialatlas And to further explain some of the #IndigenousGulf organizations that have been popping up with the #Bvlbancha spelling, like the radio project and the public access project, that's because Collective members helped start those projects lol! We get around 💖🔥

RynUfe,

@liaizon @decolonialatlas "v" in Choctaw and Mvskoke linguistics is an "uh" sound, so it's just using it to honor that heritage

RynUfe,

@liaizon @decolonialatlas oh my friend wrote a little article about it too lemme see... searches

#OTD, 05 Oct. 1813, Shawnee leader Tecumseh died.

In 1811, Tecumseh traveled thousands of miles south to Choctaw country.

He’d been mobilizing #Indigenous resistance against colonization, and had organized amongst the Sauk & Fox, Chickamauga, Tutelo, Ojibwe, Mascouten, Potawatomi, Wyandot, Mingo, Ottawa, Kickapoo, Winnebago, and Seneca people.

I am so thankful for the support that I have gotten around securing funding for my stable housing, and yakuke tcetu, a huge heartfelt thank you for that. My next funding ask is more somber.

My dear ceremony brothers year end funerary ceremony dates are approaching. We need to finish securing funding for everyone to be able to attend and travel to do what needs doing. Please share!
