that Musk had no idea what he was talking about, and would eventually have to deal with hard censorship problems that he would fail at.

The push for app store legislation is driven by multi-million $ companies like Spotify, Epic, Match. Small app developers - who pay no or low app store fees - are doing well:

But I'd be willing to bet good money that it was a very poor choice for the sequel and is now just holding the team back.

    Age restrictions on gun purchases are among the most effective, most popular measures for reducing gun deaths and increasing public safety.

    So of course Republicans don’t want any of that.

    Next up for Republicans: probably arming daycare kids. Stop letting these people get elected. Stop letting them appoint judges.

    Federal judge in Virginia rules 18-to-20-year-olds can't be prohibited from buying handguns-
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/handguns-federal-judge-second-amendment-18-to-20-year-olds-virginia/

    LouisIngenthron,
    @LouisIngenthron@qoto.org avatar

    @TonyStark @lldgirl I think I can explain that.

    When Republicans oppose common sense gun control legislation, their base doesn't really care. Much of their base would like that legislation, but it's not as big a deal to them as the other culture war stuff.

    However, when the Democrats see this, get pissed off, and start talking about banning guns, that riles up the GOP base and gives the Republicans more sound bites to win elections off of.

    It's a calculated play to get Democrats to mobilize the Republican base for them.

    Okay folks: this morning we're launching something we think is pretty useful. Lots of people have strong opinions on how content moderation should work, but they've never done it. So we built a content moderation mobile game (browser-based): https://moderatormayhem.engine.is/

    Details about it are here: https://www.techdirt.com/2023/05/11/moderator-mayhem-a-mobile-game-to-see-how-well-you-can-handle-content-moderation/

    LouisIngenthron,
    @LouisIngenthron@qoto.org avatar

    @mmasnick Neat, but really not a fan of the time limit.

    I get the point of it, but maybe it would be better to have a fixed number of cards for your shift, and then any time you get more context info, it grays out a card on the back of the deck that you'd no longer have time to get to.
    That would better reinforce the theme of the game (hard decisions in limited time) without giving advantage to speed readers.

    Also, the appeals interface is confusing. If I swipe right on an appeal, am I affirming the appeal, or am I affirming my previous decision? I assumed the former, but was never really sure...

    LouisIngenthron,
    @LouisIngenthron@qoto.org avatar

    @mmasnick @Beeks I would recommend a popup explaining the mechanic if a user clicks instead of holds. Add a "don't show this again" checkbox.

    LouisIngenthron,

    @Soldierhobo @cobalt @dangillmor Sure. But I'd argue that the lazy people who generate the demand for the service are far more to blame than those who meet their demand by providing the service.

    I won’t lie, I’m not super optimistic about the future of #Mastodon

    On top of obvious feature issues (such as the lack of quote posts, even though it’ll be addressed soon), Mastodon has a massive culture issue

    Unless your use perfectly fit with how the so-called Fedipolice uses it, you’re taking the risk of receiving massive abuse from said Fedipolice

    It’s unwelcoming, and rooted in privilege: "Mastodon isn’t a replacement for #Twitter, except for me"

    LouisIngenthron,
    @LouisIngenthron@qoto.org avatar

    @osc Okay, well, if they're genuinely being abusive, racist or not, then they should still be reported+banned.

    But if they're just being their normal mute-able annoying, then why bring race into the discussion?
