My daughter came home and told me her friend dumped her because she’s too bossy and I opened my big stupid mouth and said something like “well your other friends have also said they felt you were bossing them around, so what’s going on that everyone still feels this way?” And she ran down the hall screaming “HOW DARE I TRY TO TALK TO YOU AND EXPECT YOU TO MAKE ME FEEL BETTER YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING!”

Then she locked me out of her room (she’s 10)

Sorry but what is the universe on today? For real though.

A report card from year 10. It reads in part: English, Grade A, Dana is a very able and talented student who does not always give of her best. This failure to invest much energy in her English prevents her from achieving her full potential although this is not the say that this work is of an inferior standard. Also, Mathematics (Advanced), Grade A, Dana is a keen student but her work lacks discipline. She has a lot of ability but this needs further development.

Post op, my lowest incision was maybe an inch or two above my belly button.

Now the scar is like 6 inches above it.

@RickiTarr Private girls only South African high school in the late 80s. Deeply conservative - uniform regulations included underwear. Hated every second. Ended up finishing at a different school because the headmaster was a bullying prick who decided that I was "silently rebellious."
In retrospect, asking if they would prefer me to be loudly rebellious was probably a mistake.

Slowly getting moving this morning. Down to the last 2 days here. Feelings tend to veer back and forth all over the place regarding it.

I've got stuff to get done today so I'll be ready to do the final things tomorrow and have myself ready for when my ride to the airport shows up to take Ginza and me there.

This week when I've been waking up and that gets Ginza moving, she gets up from where she sleeps between my legs and comes up to sniff my face. That's different.

Half thinking of starting an hashtag here, about the dire, dire state of UK (global?) higher education. Sharing nuggets of senior management decisions, neoliberal language, and overall slow collapse.

Won’t work of course because most of us can’t risk honesty, but honestly: the everyday reality of what is happening deserves recording in all its depressing and damning detail.

@Impossible_PhD Wow! I just read your blog about questioning. It’s really well written and I am really really pleased you got there. About B’s reaction, the sense of getting an answer to a sense of wrongness or difference- that’s exactly how I felt when my eldest came out to me as ace. A whole bunch of things about their childhood and social interactions suddenly slotted into focus and made sense. And I was so pleased to get this piece of them …. 1/2

@Impossible_PhD fitted into my head, to realise that I could more clearly see and understand this person who is so precious to me. It didn’t even occur to me until later that it had been really scary and a big deal for them to come out to me!
