That thing where your publisher sends you a congrats card for making an award shortlist. And it comes with a gift box full of amazing artisanal macaroons.
Which would be great if not for the fact that (a) I'm diabetic and (b) my spouse is vegan (hint: macaroons contain eggs, which are not vegan) and (c) spouse is also allergic to eggs.
(This is a subset of the "my aunt always sends me a pair of socks she knitted for Christmas, and they don't fit" etiquette problem!)
I feel yesterday's physical activity still. I will need to be slower paced today. When I do walk and cycle, I will need to make them relaxed and recovery level at most. Body needs to recover today and I will want to feed it well.
Had a dream with my mom in it last night. Told her how I had been diagnosed with ADHD and that had helped me sort out a lot of stuff and reduced feelings of guilt and shame.
@IzabelaKaramia It's so lovely to see you on my timeline again!
(I probably just missed updates since your move since we also moved house and things have been somewhat hectic.)
In a civilized country, the city crew cutting down the giant tree in your yard would have said something to you. Knocked on the door. Asked if you needed to get out of the driveway or something. No words have been exchanged.
For me there are a few people who are usually equalizing, and I can just be around them, so I won't count that. But generally, I find about 3 times a week, I'm game for socializing. A day in between to rest is usually nice, but the larger the gathering or if we go somewhere particularly noisy or I'm meeting new people that involves more effort, and my social battery empties sooner. I'm very curious where everyone else falls on this!
I just got kicked out of Tillicum Centre(Mall) in #Saanich. For slapping 4 #BoycottIsraelApartheid stickers on #Starbucks doors & windows. I'll just plaster other locations ✌️🍉🇵🇸🍉☮️
@msquebanh I'm so sorry about your loss. My dad passed away a few days before fathers' day 23 years ago. Also from a bug he got in a hospital.
It gets easier. (I still have flashes of rage, though.)
Lady Gaga splits fans after admitting she had Covid during 5 live shows.
"The star then revealed that she “did 5 shows with Covid” as she didn’t want to cancel and disappoint the tens of thousands of supporters who planned to attend." 🤦♂️
@DenisCOVIDinfoguy@auscovid19 WTAF!!!! I attended one of the shows. I was masked 98% of the time, only briefly removing the mask for drinks. (I did not catch COVID then).
That is such a bad example to set. To knowingly put all those people at risk. ☹️
It cracks me up when people say that people with ADD and ADHD don't actually need their meds, they are just addicted to Adderall. Have they even met a person with ADD or ADHD?
My friends forget to take their meds all the time!
Y'all I just made myself feel so old, hubs looked up top 100 music from 2001, 2011, 2021, and today and the amount of music I could recognize decreased by significantly. I recognized probably 70% of 2001 and decreasing as I went on. BUT I blame the internet, I can listen to exactly the kind of music I want with no dependence on the radio, but also I'm old!
@RickiTarr On my last birthday a friend sent me a list of 120 songs that are now 50 like me! I recognised most of them. That would not happen with a current playlist 🤦♀️.
I constantly struggle because my brain has made connections that are not obvious to others, and when I try to guide them through my thinking I confuse them with details or by skipping explanations that seem obvious to me but completely surprising to anyone else.
@mariyadelano@actuallyautistic@actuallyadhd My friends used to use a system where I had to tap the side of my nose when I jumped topics. If they thought I had jumped topics then they would do the nose tap and I could confirm or explain further. 🤪
But I have also heard a flatmate tell another flatmate to "just smile and nod when she talks". 🤷
Since it comes up with some frequency on autistic social media, I wanted to share my experience with noise cancelling headphones as an noise sensitive autistic person with auditory processing issues. As always, this is just my experience.
I tried writing it for a Mastodon post, but it got way to long... so I ended up dumping it on my blog instead.
If you have any questions etc. do feel free to share.
@samantha@actuallyautistic Great, comprehensive description. I have sound-triggered migraines, and noise-cancelling headphones are wonderful for that. I also tend to wear them with nothing playing!
For general noise shaping I cannot recommend Flare Calmer ear plugs enough. They are soft and comfortable for all day use. The noise reduction is minimal, but the sharper, jagged frequencies are dampened. If I feel a headache and pop them in then I can still teach fine, and avoid the worst of it.
