Israel has killed in 6 months 3 times more Palestinians than the Russians have in 2 years in Ukraine, 70% of which were women and children.

I see no reason why Russia should be ban from the Paris 2024 Olympics and Israel wouldn't...beside the usual double-standard "get out of any situation creepy as it might" free card.

Israel has repeatedly violated international humanitarian law (IHL) in its brutal treatment of Palestinians during its post-1948 settler-colonial occupation - including its repeated “mowing the lawn” asssults Gaza: eg: Operation Cast Lead, Operation Pillar of Defense and Operation Breaking Dawn!

Btw, in the context of the above, under international law, Hamas (in the name of an occupied population) has every right to defend itself from constant attack by the US-armed and backed Israeli military!

Israel is now, rightly, being held to account for plausibly violating the UN Genocide Convention by murdering and maiming tens of thousands of Palestinians using both weapons of war and starvation! I hope you’re not disputing that?

Hi Claudio. I’m am compelled to contradict you again I’m afraid: you’re wrong about the October 7 attacks killing the largest number of Jews since the Shoah!

In fact, as the Guardian reported in 1999, upwards of 3,000 Jews were thought to have been murdered by the Argentinian junta (out of a possible total of 30,000 deaths) during its “Dirty War” against its political opponents between 1976-1983 (https://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/1999/mar/24/guardianweekly.guardianweekly1).

Secondly, you’re again conveniently ignoring the wider context of the 75+ years of #Zionist occupation and appropriation of Palestinian land and parroting the usual hasbara ‘line’ that poor little Israel is the victim aren’t you?

Thirdly, may I remind you that under international law, Israel illegally occupies Palestinian land. Nevertheless, as the ‘de facto’ occupier, it has no right of ‘self defence’ under Article 51 of the UN Charter! Check it out for yourself!

As the settler-colonial occupier, Israel can ‘protect itself’ eg form terrorist attacks but only in a proportionate way. In the circumstances arising from the October 7 concentration camp break out by trained Hamas fighters (followed in two further phases by members of other resistance groups and ordinary Gazans) Israel’s response has been utterly out of all proportion to the scale of the Hamas attack and has been specifically targeted at civilians and civilian infrastructure!

Instead of ensuring that civilians were properly protected during any military response, as international law dictates, #Natanyahu and the IDF have slaughtered tens of thousands of women, children and infants and destroyed the entire Gaza civilian infrastructure - including hospitals, schools, museums, universities and places of worship!

As Francesca Albanese, the UN Rapporteur for Palestine, has said in her recent report to the UN member states: based on such evidence, “there are reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating
Israel’s commission of genocide is met.”

Finally, what evidence can you cite that Hamas was deliberately trying to provoke such a genocidal over-reaction? There is no such evidence to support your ‘reasonable’ assumption is there? No-one knows what their motivation was! We perhaps never will either!

It’s also apparent in most , including the “impartial” here in the UK, that the victims of the October 7 attack are described as being a result of the “Hamas attack” - thereby concealing the fact that the
military initiated their , albeit informally as I understand it, in a panicked response to the surprise attack and, as a consequence, killed large numbers of their own people - whether military or civilian - in the resulting firefights!

Of the 1,200 people killed on October 7, I’ve watched a Prof Norman interview where he suggests that 800 were probably the victims of three waves of Palestinian attack following the Hamas “jail break”!

Firstly the trained Hamas militia; secondly the fighters from other Gaza-based militia groups; and thirdly, ordinary Gazans who may have opportunistically sought to loot and/ or otherwise “vent their fury” at their Israeli jailers - including by killing rave event participants.

Let's be clear on what it means that a famine in the technical sense is imminent for 1.1 million people in Gaza according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

One of the criteria is 2 deaths per 10,000 people from outright starvation or the interaction of malnutrition and disease... PER DAY.

The people who understand this stuff are saying that a situation is imminent where there are AT LEAST 200 starvation deaths every day.

The Israel lobby is attempting to indoctrinate Americans that the context for the October 7 attack is the Holocaust. This is a misrepresentation. The Palestinians had nothing to do with the Holocaust.

As I’m sure you are well aware Bossito, there is now a considerable amount of credible (as opposed to IDF) evidence which clearly shows that it is the #Israeli #military and other security services who are committing the mass murder, child torture/ murder, raping of women and girls, prisoner humiliation/ torture/ and other heinous war crimes and crimes against humanity!

So #Mondoweiss is absolutely correct to say that there is a context and it isn’t the #Holocaust! It’s the 75+ years of #SettlerColonial oppression that the #Apartheid state of Israel has been imposing on the indigenous #Palestinian population!
