I'm the sound engineer for https://thecword.show (a #podcast about museum conservators) and run a tiny miniatures company too.

I think this terrain piece is going to reach the finishing stretch fairly soon! I want a bit more detailing on it but overall I'm pretty pleased with it. It helps that the grot on top is already painted - the one on the tank is a stand-in.

    little story for tonight.

    while i was goofing around with , I ended up searching for some old Simpsons icons for my classic Macintosh (an LC 475), and stumbled upon an entry on the garden called Banned Simpsons Icons. (Who could resist downloading something with a title like that?)

    They were called the "Banned Simpsons Icons" because Fox once sent the artist - Jeanette Foshee - a cease & desist letter for her uncannily perfect renderings of the copyrighted characters. they planned on suing her for every penny she made ($0.00) on them. this was back in 1995.

    i thought - hell, what a wild story. why don't I get a hold of the artist - jeanette - and find out more about her banned icon set?

    what i stumbled upon broke my heart, and i ended up spending a week digitally preserving what i could find.

    @darth @rms I would certainly agree there are problems. Huge problems. I just think his description makes it seem like it's silly little people and their silly little messages.

    ...rather than addressing things like dark design patterns, optimisation for "engagement" and the lack of consideration for what the side effects of that are, and so on.

    @darth I'm a little confused as to why non-integer scaling entered the conversation here.

    I was just trying to make a joke about the native software on Smart TVs commonly being amusingly shit. So in my case the native YouTube and Netflix apps don't actually support the resolution of the display they're shipped with.
