Wow. So, he can still run for president? 😳 What's there to celebrate then?

Convicted criminals can run for office in India too. Democracy and stuff. Was thinking that maybe it's better in the US. Looks like that isn't the case.

Two things I miss most about Calcutta - mangoes and kathi rolls. The latter I've been able to fix on trips - and occasionally (like today after a long time) - at home!
Egg chicken rolls for dinner! (Ersatz but quite happy with how they turned out! )
Trick is to use a teeny bit of beet noon (beet salt; aka black salt, kala namak) to finish

Reminiscing &

Plate with 2 (egg) parathas with fried up chicken pieces and onion and scattered over with sliced red onions, chopped green chili, squeeze of lime and a sprinkle of beet noon (black salt)
Parathas with cooked egg with filling on a plate
Two rolls wrapped up in paper on a plate

@SRDas On my first visit to Kolkata in 1996, my cousin at Jadavpur University, "You don't know 'rolls'? We'll get you rolls." That was my introduction to 'rolls' - I didn’t even know they were called 'kathi' rolls. 🙂

Before that, I had never seen or had one in Delhi or other parts of India, could it be said that 'Rolls' originated in Kolkata?

/Rolls = Now a common NorthIndian street food lingo. Like Egg roll, Chicken roll, Paneer roll..and so on :D

I love how folks still think people farmers like Google have a trust problem.

In 2024!

They don’t have a trust problem.

They are untrustworthy.

And they’ve always been untrustworthy. It’s just that your friends happen to work there and your agency gets scraps of work from them sometimes and maybe they sponsor events you speak at that you’re even still questioning this. And, by doing so – still, even today – helping legitimise them.

With friends like these…

Billionaires can get laws written in just weeks since they get distressed by it. Remember this the next time they say they cannot do anything to address climate change or poverty.

Also, remember this law exists because of the newly minted billionaire Taylor Swift.

Got tomatillos coz together with the plastic bag of chilies they were $5 at Alemany. I am gonna follow this aunty's recipe for Salsa verde coz she is doing all the things I like (boiling garlic + adding raw garlic, making tomatillo pieces chonky). Though – after that burning hand I experienced all of last night cutting these chillies for freezing – I am not gonna add as many chilies.

@divya Would (personally) char the tomatillos and chillies - earthy taste ahem. Also, grind them manually instead of a mixie. Hehe

Today is Sorry Day in so-called Australia. "Sorry" does not refer to apologies. It's based on Indigenous practices of Sorry Business; a collective process in times of grief & loss.

It's a day of remembrance for the 10000s of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children forcibly removed from their families: the Stolen Generations. Taken between late 1800s to early 1980s, the children were placed in church-run institutions or (later) put up for adoption without parental consent.

Up until the late 1950s, the children were trained for domestic servitude and unpaid labouring and sent to white businesses and households. The abuse and neglect in the institutions and elsewhere was rampant. Many died in these places; not everyone who survived found their families; and most have passed away without seeing any justice.

Every Indigenous family has one or more members that were part of the Stolen Generations. And the trauma of this particular act of genocide is intergenerational.

Sorry Day was one of the recommendations of a royal commission - the Bringing them home: Report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families. Which was tabled with the Australian
Parliament on 26 May 1997.

Another recommendation was a national apology, and that occurred on 13 February. Otherwise, very few of the 54 recommendations have been actioned.

In more recent years, in addition to commemorating the Stolen Generations and advocating for their rights, this day is also for fighting for the rights of Indigenous children who are being taken away in record numbers.

Today, I think of my family members who were stolen by the government, and forced into servitude as children. Fuck the government, churches and others who participated in this race-based cruelty; who used Aboriginal blood, sweat and tears to build a white nation on stolen Blak land. Yes, Sorry Day is also a day of anger.

Deus,

@lemba That's not the point. Unless there's a way for Windows users to easily migrate to Linux with a Click > Click > Click, mass adoption would be hard to come by (a long way).

Think of the first feature that users in the Fediverse were looking for - easy way to migrate accounts. Bad example but hope you get the idea.

Deus,
@Deus@charcha.cc avatar

@harshad I was just coming from the point of a simple migration, good sir! Click > Click > Select options > another Click > Finish > I've migrated to Linux! (like a Windows upgrade) 😁

Deus,
@Deus@charcha.cc avatar

@harshad Not at all! I'm in no hurry to migrate - perhaps when MS forces me to.

EMI won't be necessary, never had a CC nor taken a loan in this life 🙏

Deus,
@Deus@charcha.cc avatar

@harshad I've used (rather played) with RH and Ubuntu before so I understand the privacy part and things that can go wrong when installing those. Was just piggybacking on the discussion and that I should consider using it since it doesn't look like I need to look up (search) for every missing driver of a Windows alternative to a software (or app). I'm also not taking it that I'm being forced.
