This might be a bit of a hot take but I always roll my eyes a little when we start knocking the FOSS community whatever the reason of the day is.

I got into FOSS in the first place because I could not afford Windows or the propitiatory tools that people consider to be "industry standards".

I guess it makes me a little sentimental about the FOSS movement.

I really hate how you can't visit a website on mobile these days, without it aggressively asking you to install its app. Often with a large pop-up you can't get rid of.

You're not making me want to install your app, your just making me want to spend as little time on your website as possible.

I'm kinda taken back by how many right-wingers are coming out of the woodwork to defend Russel Brand. Going from hard-left to Covid conspiracies to whatever-he-is-now is kinda sus, and it's weird how he's got so many right-wing commentators just running interference for him.

It seems the lesson here is if you think you might be outed as a rapist, make a hard pivot to the right and you'll have people protecting your career.

I wonder if the long-term plan for this Windows Recall is just to generate vast amounts of human created data to train AI off of.

Microsoft would have a constant stream of fresh, up-to-the-minute data in insanely vast quantities. Not only that, but it would be exclusive data, giving them an edge in the AI race.

Hot take: any browser that uses Blink web-engine is just repackaged Chrome/Chromium and not worth considering as a primary browser. Extra-negative points if the browser isn't open source.

That being said, the fact that Mozilla make it so hard to make their engine modular is a crime.

I do quite like that #LinuxMint has somewhat de-commercialised Ubuntu, but I do think that it would be so awesome if they made LMDE their main release. I always get a fair bit of (justified) push-back on that spicy hot #Linux take but I genuinely stand by it.

People really losing their minds over this 20mph roll-out. Honestly I'm all for it, given how many cars there are on the road, and the absolutely ludicrous places people park these days, we need to take it down a notch just to cope with the challenges of having so many abysmal drivers on the road.

I was in one of the early-roll-out zones and it's already started saving me bother. No it hasn't made my journeys noticeably longer, or any of the nonsense the gammon are peddling.
