The xz supply chain compromise is nuts.

• It’s hidden as a test case for a corrupt archive.
• The injection is only in the source tar and not the git repo.
• The backdoor only targets enterprise Linux distros that patch sshd to notify systemd, eg RHEL/Debian.
• It came from a main maintainer and was introduced slowly over years. Everything is gpg signed.
• They pushed for it to be added into Fedora 40 so it would be in RHEL10.
• A PostGres dev noticed his ssh was slow and caught it by accident.

At first when I used #Windows all the time I thought #Linux was complicated.

Now since I use Linux all the time I can't figure out how people use Windows productively.

Like how do you manage to get around all these shortcomings? The propietary formats and impossibility to modify the data by yourself? The missing automation in most of your tasks? All the cash-grabbing apps that want you to pay for each and every feature?

It's like Windows and Linux users life completely different (work)lives.

Sometimes I feel like I dont belong to our society.

When people look down to garbage men I look up, because I couldn't do this job and I am impressed they can do this.

When people look up to VIPs I am just like "Their job is being famous. They are not special, just doing their business".

In truth, I feel that each and every person is special in his/her own way. Nobody is less or more awesome. Humanity is just insanely diverse and special in all its ways.

Here is a crazy idea for all those phone makers out there:
Make it repairable, last long and stop surveiling us at each and every step.

What we want is freedom and choice, not 10% faster cpu, 15% more battery, 5% slimmer and 20% less features with every release.

Oh and while we're at it, maybe support it for more than 2 years because... we actually still have an environment that we can save?

Is there interest in a #foss static #forum software? Yes, you heard that right.

Thinking about creating a system for basically periodically scanning the inbox of a mail account, creating a #markdown draft which then can get approved or rejected by simply moving it to the appropiate folder. A #cronjob is then picking it up and compiling the forum page again.

This would work with mailto links, so any email editor is already the writing tool.

You may have heard that I got a @frameworkcomputer laptop around 9 months ago but there is not much of me talking/complaining about it.

Truth is, there is barely anything I can say about it. And that is a good thing. The computer works as expected, has a good performance, is silent unless in heavy use and is beautiful to look at.

It performs my daily tasks at ease and using my eGPU I can throw harder tasks at it with no problem.

From this point forward I try to move forward with environmental and Right-To-Repair conscious decisions.

I've bought a #Framework laptop and a #Fairphone last year and will continue to invest my money into tech and companies which go against the stream and actually make decent devices that are pro-user.

Maybe I will start a little list to collect the companies and products which one can use as replacement for environmental, RtR and privacy aware users.

My gratitude for #linux, #gnu and such also does not come short.

Where would we be without thousands, if not millions, of amazing people doing the good work and making this world a better place.

The Internet is dying.

Websites with libraries and media pulled from 30+ domains seem to be no exception anymore.

Who does this? Who has the guts to call himself a web developer or Website Administrator and then go crazy with includes?

At very least bundle it yourself. I cant look at Websites nowadays. Doesnt help that I know 1. how to make it better and 2. why it happens. :-/
