It's #NationalPetDay so here's my favourite photo of my beloved @TimTamCorgi (yes he has his own Mastodon account), being fluffy and adorable.

He is currently shorn like a sheep, and well outliving his life expectancy. He's diabetic and blind, and over 10 years old (which we weren't expecting).

1/3 Happy #Easter! 🐰🥚🌼 #DYK the holiday has its roots in a #pagan festival celebrating the #springequinox (when the length of nights & days become equal) in the Northern Hemisphere.* The equinox happens when the Earth’s axis & its orbit line up, giving both hemispheres an equal amount of sunlight.

We use an astronomical calculation to work out which day Easter lands on ✖️➗🔭

*Note that this is the autumn equinox for us down under 🌏

#Aussie #STEM friends, I recently heard about this super cool program that pairs you with a 10-13 year old student and you exchange 3 hand written letters over the year about STEM topics 📝👩‍🔬 It’s free and such a fun way to practice your #scicomm !

Small initiatives like this can have a big impact, especially for young girls and underrepresented groups in STEM ✨

This one’s a revamped #essay I wrote as part of my #scicomm major and explores the important, though overlooked, role of women in early Western #ScienceCommunication and #SciencePopularisation. 🌱📚👩‍🔬

An excellent article co-authored by one of my colleagues from the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS).
