I'm Badri, a #writer and #nonfiction#editor at Snipette looking to explore and highlight the interesting aspects of our world 🔦
I also #read a lot, and am always on the lookout for interesting bits of #science, #culture, #history, or #philosophy which come out at some point or other in my articles 👀
I'm also @badrihippo, but this instance, Snipetteville, is a place for all Snipette editors to hang out. We may be talking in private, but if you see a public conversation you're most welcome to join. Feel free to tag me in deep and/or lighthearted #philosophical conversations about aspects of the world 💭
Hey there. I'm an Australian flash fiction author. I've been working on a novella which I'd like to share.
In the fifth instalment of the 'New Beginnings' series titled 'A mother's love' Lee's worst nightmare has come to fruition and the move to Malandra has thrown her life into chaos. She is hanging on by a thread as she contemplates the worst thing that a parent could imagine. Mick, the local constable goes on the hunt for the children, fearful of what he may find out.
While you're there, read the rest of the 'New Beginnings' series and browse through my other stories.
Even outside the political stuff, this #timeline is still stretching the bounds of believability. Maybe when the #WGA strike is resolved, we can get a competent #writer to fix all the broken bits.
e.g. even the most diehard, skeptical rationalist can't completely dismiss the possibility that, say, Peter Thiel, or another tech-adjacent #plutocrat, already has one or more #clones on standby as perfect organ donors.
Today in Writing History May 9, 1946: Ayşe Nur Zarakolu, Turkish author and activist was born on this day. Along with her husband, she cofounded Belge publishing house. She published books on the Armenian Genocide and the human rights of Turkey’s Kurdish population. As a result, the government imprisoned her repeatedly. Amnesty International designated her a prison of conscience.
Today in Writing History May 9, 1981: Nelson Algren, American novelist and short story writer died. His most famous book was “The Man With The Golden Arm,” which was made into a film in 1955. He was called the “bard of the down-and-outer” based on his numerous stories about the poor, beaten down and addicted. Algren was also called a “gut radical.” His heroes included Big Bill Haywood, Eugene Debs and Clarence Darrow. He claims he never joined the Communist Party, but he participated in the John Reed Club and was an honorary co-chair of the “Save Ethel and Julius Rosenberg Committee.” The FBI surveilled him and had a 500-page dossier on him.
Isis (Trinity). There hasn’t been much to laugh about recently. I mean, yeah, I laugh with my work colleagues, I laugh when Maeve does something funny. She likes to do that when she senses I’m down.
She’s had to do it a lot more since the marriage break up. I just wonder how she’ll react when she learns I’ve lost my job and the house now.
Twos Company....PADDLES. Do you like the canoes WITH or WITHOUT paddles? (See my pinned post for one without the paddles). Not changing anything...just curious what you think?
*Another one of the canoe pieces I created for The Indigenous Diabetes Health Circle.
Hi all! Writing an introduction or a bio is always a challenge, but here we go. I'm Shire, a thirtysomething in #Indiana, USA, currently focusing on personal and professional development as I rediscover who I am and where I fit in this not-really-post-pandemic world.
Art-wise: I absolutely adore #crochet and fiber arts in general, and have been working on designing some crochet patterns in the hopes of sharing them with the world. I'm also a #writer (mostly essays, but also trying my hand at horror fiction) and #baker.
Professionally, I am a #librarian focused on reader's advisory. If you ever need book recommendations, I'm your dude! My professional focus is improving access to libraries for LGBTQ+ people, which is currently an uphill battle, particularly in my home state.
I live with my partner and three cats. I'm also learning to play #bass and hope to start voice lessons again in the near future to regain my #singing voice.
Today in Writing History May 7, 1867: Polish author Wladyslaw Reymont was born. His best-known work is the award-winning four-volume novel Chłopi (The Peasants), which won him the 1924 Nobel Prize in Literature. Also in 1924, he published his novel “Revolt,” about a rebellion of farm animals fighting for equality. However, the revolt quickly degenerates into bloody terror. It was a metaphor for the Bolshevik Revolution. Consequently, the Polish authorities banned it from 1945 to 1989. Reymont’s farm animal rebellion predated Orwell’s by 21 years.
I need #notebook recommendations. See mansplainer disclaimer below.
#Moleskine hardback #notebooks are not worth it. They used to be. Now they do not hold up. I've gone through 3 of them recently, each time I had to abandon unused pages because the spine of the cover separated from the page binding. Every one, same thing.
I am not that rough with my notebooks. In fact by the third one, I started to baby it instead of just using the thing however I felt like it. The glue is simply cheap and sucks.
(Reply guy mansplainer disclaimer: Please don't respond if you don't actually have firsthand experience, I know how Google works too. Also dont tell me how to glue book spines back together, that's not the point. )
