Pollinators love them, in fact they are one of the earliest sources of food in the spring, they are as cheerful as little sunshines and delicious to eat (the whole plant in fact is edible: flowers, leaves, roots): dandelions #plants#weeds#foraging#pollinators
A drone view shows a "mat" of water lettuce covering the Vaal River and expanding quickly, impairing the water's quality by blocking the air-water interface and sharply lowering oxygen levels at the Luciana Country Estate, Parys, South Africa, February 16. REUTERS/Shiraaz Mohamed
One of the most invasive #Australian#weeds is being touted as a potential #EconomicCrop, with benefits for the construction, mining & forestry industries & potentially many #FirstNations communities.
The prickly paddy melon weed, which costs the agricultural industry around $100 million a year in lost grain yields, cattle deaths & control measures, could turn into an unlikely money spinner as a source of urease enzymes to create #Bioacement & prevent #SoilErosion.
I bought a brushcutter/whippersnipper today. Battery, of course.
It's also much cooler today so I gave it a spin (groan), until I flattened the battery. No idea how long that was, but I am officially buggered. Knackered. Rooted. Stuffed.
The hunger for invasive weeds on the NSW Mid North Coasts
On the Weed Wide Web "we found 155 different declared invasive plants just being sold on one platform, and just in one year...Invasive plants have effectively cost Australia an estimated $200 billion since 1960, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to monitor online trade of species."
Big downside to living temporarily elsewhere: yard here has been obsessively weeded, and I have no weeds (no mustard, no dandelions, no volunteer arugula, etc.) to forage for breakfast. My yard is highly edible, always some kind of volunteer in the garden beds. Garden here, but it has no weeds, which is silly. #weeds
One of my valued values is integrity. I believe persons should do what they say they will do and only say what they will do. That value causes me to be scarce with commitments because if I say I will do something, I'll do it or at least try my very best to do it. That hasn't always been the case for me, it's something that evolved with maturity and in the Army, integrity is a core value, or at least supposed to be. As with anybody else, when somebody tells me they will do something, and they don't do it, not only am I disappointed, but I'm also genuinely perplexed. and feel deceived at best.
“Don't assume, ask. Be kind. Tell the truth. Don't say anything you can't stand behind fully. Have integrity. Tell people how you feel.” - Warsan Shire
Have not had these before: #Geastrum , a #fungus called #Earthstar . Probably a good sign of a healthy, #biodiverse#garden - always exciting to find something new. Not sure, which variety. Maybe someone can help.

Is this allium vineale / wild garlic? Allium oleraceum / field garlic? Or Allium schoenoprasum / #chives?
The last option, chives, is #native to the USA and #PA; the others aren't. I'm growing a native plant garden, so if it's #invasive / introduced, I'll evict it.
When I picked a leaf off the specimen growing out of the wall, it smelled faintly of green #onions, so I'm inclined to believe it is in the onion family.
Last week we were enjoying a few days of sunny, dry, hot and #summery weather. What else can you do but sit lazily in the #shade of a big tree?
