A new UDM, the UniFi Dream Machine Pro Max.

I spent a lot of time testing this device, does it out perform its predecessors?

#Ubiquity's #UniFi system has been expensive, true. But that's been one of the best purchases I've made in years. It's easy to use, looks nice and just works stable as a rock... 😍

Both my wife and I have a set with a light kit hooked up to our 's. So that when our PC's are on the light kit in the hooked up set is on. Due to the motherboard during the ports those sets are hooked into are always supplying power. As a result they would always be turned on. So used with information from a presence sensor, and information from the the PC's are connected to to determine if they are on. When they are off the NIC speed is

#Ubiquiti never ceases to amaze me with how simple yet powerful it can be. I needed to route specific traffic from a specific device on the local network over a VPN. In #Unifi Dream Machine Pro, the VPN and routing setup was done in 5 minutes and very intuitively. 👌

Why multicast enhancements cause wired devices to sometimes not see WiFi devices:

“Because when a wireless device roams, it will no longer receive multicasts on the new AP until the next time it subscribes.

Multicast enhancement blocks multicast traffic from being transmitted on APs with no multicast subscribers. (…) losing things like MDNS updates, in some cases for many minutes.”

It's really really annoying when you have devices on your #network and you have no idea what they are 😵‍💫🤬

Just deployed two new #Ubiquiti #unifi #U7-Pro access points to my home network to replace a #UAP-AC-LR and a #UAP-FlexHD. So far they seem to be working well.

I'm doing wireless mesh between the AP connected to the router and the AP in the back of the house. The connection isn't amazing (only getting 70mbps down from the meshed AP) but that's better than before.

These new AP are quite a bit bigger and heavier than my old ones.

I just can’t run things normally… Just updated my #UniFi Network app on the #DreamMachinePro gateway to release candidate version 8.1.113. Everything has to be running slightly unstable, otherwise it’s getting boring…😂

My #UniFi setup is now complete. Though I might mingle some more with the VLANs and WiFi networks, in terms of hardware it’s done!

Ended up with #DreamMachinePro gateway, USW Lite 8 PoE and 2 U6+ access points.

It was easy to install, and fortunately the cable in the wall can handle PoE…😂

As for mentioned earlier #RaspberryPi5, I forgot to order the power supply…🤡

Sooooo... I just couldn't wait and ordered the rest of my new #UniFi home network. Dream Machine Pro will be joined by USW-Lite-8-PoE switch and 2 U6+ access points...🤡

The router was a breeze to set up and it actually took more time to deal with the media center cabling mess than to configure the thing. Hoping the rest will be as easy.

is one expensive toy, but I’m mostly happy with how it works. The setup is very basic, as for a wife reason I couldn’t buy all of the toys at once… We will have to live with basic TP-Link AP setup for a month. Like animals…🤡😱

Had one issue with gateway, not working well with vlan tagging but I’ve found a solution!😁

Can’t wait for the switch and APs…🫣

Guess who did an emergency secondary #DNS server rebuilding today after something between #flannel, #unifi, and #metallb took out their primairy #DNS cluster. Yup this guy 🤬

I know it’s getting boring and I should be reasonable and go with … But I guess has this Apple-like bling and I’m gonna suffer a bit more with the old setup and eventually cash out on overkill and some matching APs…🫣

#GoodMorning. I've been in a GPU and PC building rabbit hole.

Now I'm digging another one, this time around home network wired routers...

I'm kinda tired of managing low end #OpenWRT low storage router...😅

Nothing against OpenWRT, it's been very stable and useful and I could go with it again, but I'm also open for a change...

It’s boiling down to #Ubiquiti vs #Mikrotik. #UniFi has more appeal, the app looks nice but I don’t need WiFi router (I already have 3 TP-Link Deco in a mesh) and the prices are hell. #Mikrotik looks about right, but man… WinBox looks like shit and the learning curve is probably steep… SEND HELP!🤡

Some days ago I setup #UniFi Network on my #RaspberryPi 3, despite the sys. requirements of min 2GB RAM.

That went well for a couple of days, but that changed.

So now I can buy the 2GB RPi 4 or buy the more expensive UniFi Express and let it do its magic.

So... what should I do?

Sidenote: I am pretty impressed with the UniFi system so far. It's expensive, but it works like a charm.

I've been trying to stay away from stressful things during the holidays, so no #3DPrinting or #HomeLab until today. Now I'm back at printing parts that will help me re-arrange my stuff inside my network rack and cabling closet, starting with this cute little guy:

THIS is why all "#Cloud" / #SaaS" is inherently shit:

Choose wisely and demand #OnPremise #SelfHosting capabilities!

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@Castiai Yes, and that would be binding contracts and commercial support.

I'd love to see a #FLOSS-based alternative to #Ubiquiti #UniFi products but in terms of #WiFi the @EU_Commission killed that with #Overegulation and for #Cameras and their #Access Systems they do actually have a good track record and one has full control whether it's #OnPremise or elsewhere...

And I do think having an easy-to-use solution is totally valid, even if it's a proprietary solution:
