Silly question…
WiFi access points with roaming.
I know Ruckus and UniFi and Aruba.
I mostly like Aruba as no need for controller/director.
What other options are there?
What “consumer” grade multi AP solutions are good? #wifi#aruba#ruckus#unifi
After a recent move, fiber install and a U6-LR added now rethinking my equipment. I outgrew a 6U rack and have a 15U ordered + a #unifi dream machine pro for scalability and to power more POE cameras. The U6-LR amazes me at its coverage. Now researching for a future addition of a rack mount NAS. Recommendations needed.
I’m retiring the following and it will probably go to my son.
#StarTrek fans, I hope you're happy. I have started polluting my #Babylon5 network equipment namespace with #DeepSpaceNine names.
Replacing "Garibaldi" my #Unifi USG3 (plus my anonymous CloudKeyV1) with "Odo" a UDMP 😂
(Yea, I could have named the new unit "Zack”, but that's boring af, not a huge fan of the guy, and also this new device is much more than just the gateway, so a shapeshifter makes thematic sense!)
(What do you mean I put way too much thought into naming my devices???)
I turned on my new #Unifi UDMP today, but didn't plug it into anything, so all it's got is electrons and Bluetooth (which I used alongside its cute tiny little touchscreen to make sure it was working).
Poor thing is sitting there going "HELLO? ANYBODY OUT THERE?? HELLLOOOOOO~”.
Will probably swap it into my actual network tomorrow? Existing controller is so ancient I'm gonna try to "roll forward” on a fresh setup instead of doing a “backup-restore as migration” as is suggested.
#Ubiquiti never ceases to amaze me with how simple yet powerful it can be. I needed to route specific traffic from a specific device on the local network over a VPN. In #Unifi Dream Machine Pro, the VPN and routing setup was done in 5 minutes and very intuitively. 👌
Both my wife and I have a #LEGO set with a light kit hooked up to our #gaming#PC's. So that when our PC's are on the light kit in the hooked up set is on. Due to the motherboard during #WoL the #USB ports those sets are hooked into are always supplying power. As a result they would always be turned on. So used #nodered with information from a #ESP presence sensor, and information from the #unifi#switch the PC's are connected to to determine if they are on. When they are off the NIC speed is
Pondering snapping up one of these next gen lite #Unifi gateways when they go up for sale, since my old USG3 is no longer getting firmware updates, seemingly.
OTOH I'm still running the old creaky CloudKey v1 and at least one major rev behind of the Controller/Network app. /And/ I might get some of their cameras sometime. So maybe I should just suck it up and get a Dream Machine or other NVR-capable AIO unit.
I picked up an inexpensive plastic stand to put my UniFi Enterprise 8 PoE so it wouldn't sit directly on the Professional 48 non-PoE switch and that helped drop the temperatures for both switches down by 4-5 degrees Celsius.
I also have a small fan blowing down on to the 10GBase-T SFP+ transceiver and that is now running a lot cooler. I'll need to find a better way to mount the fan rather than having to wedged in like that.
I think the #unifi USG Pro (USG-PRO-4) is like a #playstation5. They build 10 in a week, 9 get sniped by bots and the one remaining takes almost a month to get. No promises it will actually ship.
I’ve been checking for a year. Cancelled an order after two months in 2022.
Guess who did an emergency secondary #DNS server rebuilding today after something between #flannel, #unifi, and #metallb took out their primairy #DNS cluster. Yup this guy 🤬
Sooooo... I just couldn't wait and ordered the rest of my new #UniFi home network. Dream Machine Pro will be joined by USW-Lite-8-PoE switch and 2 U6+ access points...🤡
The router was a breeze to set up and it actually took more time to deal with the media center cabling mess than to configure the thing. Hoping the rest will be as easy.
Just deployed two new #Ubiquiti#unifi#U7-Pro access points to my home network to replace a #UAP-AC-LR and a #UAP-FlexHD. So far they seem to be working well.
I'm doing wireless mesh between the AP connected to the router and the AP in the back of the house. The connection isn't amazing (only getting 70mbps down from the meshed AP) but that's better than before.
These new AP are quite a bit bigger and heavier than my old ones.
Upgraded the homelab’s 10gb switch to the UniFi EnterpriseXG. Not only do I have more 10gb ports now, I also have far fewer SFP+ modules in use, and the switches are all matchy matchy.
Also, I swear the whole rig has less latency now. I can’t prove it, but it sure feels snappier.
