Breaking servers for a living.

I talk about random stuff, recently mostly #HomeLab, #HomeAssistant and #3DPrinting.

Taking a break before my next gig. (#Infrastructure #DataCenter #Cloud #Containers)

I lie to myself that I can write decent code, so I push random contributions to open source projects.

My posts are my own, and should not be taken too seriously.

I post dumb videos about biking, cats and gaming on my YouTube channel.

I was trying to run on top of on a VM with 8GB of RAM, to simulate a , but when I saw the basic cluster and monitoring with NO apps using 50% of memory, all I could hear was @ironicbadger telling me to stop using Pis. 😮‍💨

Is Rancher really that memory hungry, or did I do something wrong? 🤔

In case you're wondering, I installed them using @technotim playbooks.

@SNThrailkill
Sure, I could. But then it would be unrealistic, because I'm trying to simulate a possible 2-node cluster before committing. If I need more than two VMs to run my apps, then it won't go to "production". 😔

Giving up on configuring #forgejo to send e-mails. No matter what I try, it can't authenticate to my mail server. "Password mismatch" though it works without problems when I connect with my normal e-mail client, so I know the password is correct. I tried putting the password as PASSWORD and without the backticks in app.ini, no luck.

SOLVED: The key in app.ini is named PASSWD not PASSWORD. #facepalm

    I am not what you would call a prolific open-source developer, but I do have a few things that I maintain that are open.

    There's an undercurrent of entitlement from some folks in the comments / issues on these projects and it is really gross. Folks giving away their time to write code, documentation, or any other thing do not deserve this. It's really got under my bonnet today. It's a vocal few, of course, that have this effect. But they cause so much damage to the open source movement and I wish they'd buzz off.

    I fought with and Helm for a while, but gave up. Feels like TF does not mix well with operations, but it's great to spin up a cluster.

    I think Ansible is pretty great for app deployment and orchestration. It still slips a bit on the k8s side, but far less than TF.

    Question to the community: I bought this filament dryer (link below), but it's noisy as hell! Would anybody recommend something quieter?

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJ2YVVFM

    badnetmask,
    @badnetmask@hachyderm.io avatar

    @po3mah
    Ugh! I almost bought that one, but then I thought "I don't need to dry two spools". Looks like now I have to go for it. 😞

    badnetmask,
    @badnetmask@hachyderm.io avatar

    The noise level when my printer and my dryer are running at the same time varies between 60db to 75db. The charts say that's moderate to loud, equivalent to a traffic jam or a vacuum running. Ugh! 😩

    badnetmask,
    @badnetmask@hachyderm.io avatar

    Not sure if it's just wishful thinking or not, but it feels like with the filament directly from a dryer while it's running is making the prints smoother and shinier. Maybe I really need to invest in a better/quieter dryer.

    I've been asked to just make sure this is clear: on 40, it seems the epoch update in the xz package did not help, so the suggestion is to "dnf downgrade xz" manually. (I can't verify myself as I don't have one running right now).

    A local cfg file overrides everything not declared with the defaults. It doesn't merge with the global file in etc. I don't remember where EE stores its config, but when you load one together with your playbooks, it overrides the EE configs.
