Erste Tour dieses Jahr über den #Hegaublick nach #Hintschingen und über #Riedöschingen hoch zum #HelmutGroßPlatz oberhalb #Tengen und weiter über den #Postweg zum #Napoleoneck bei tollem Wetter. Allerdings ist aktuell wieder eine Zeit der krassen Temperaturunterschiede. Zwischen 8°C auf der nördlichen Schattenseite und 24°C im sonnigen Südhang war alles dabei.
Und last but not least liegen so viele Bäume (r)um, das ist echt krass.

June 29, 1983: The remainder of the trail was densely wooded, generally lacking in viewpoints. That was of little consequence today. The cold rain intensified and lingered into the night. Rain makes for a much more introverted hiking experience than on a clear day. Far-off vistas disappear and distant colors are muted into shades of gray.

August 13, 1983: The Appalachian Trail went into Dark Entry Ravine, ascending through the perpetual twilight silence of an old hemlock forest. Long years of decomposing fallen needles had buried the boulder-strewn ground and transformed it into a soft, lumpy carpet. It was lovely, even though the stream was barely running.
Heute war's leider doch auch mehr trüb als sonnig, aber immerhin trocken. Gut, von oben. Von unten kann man das aktuell nicht behaupten. Aber das ist angesichts der Jahreszeit und der vermutlich auch diesen Sommer wieder auftretenden Trockenheit auch gut so, wenn sich die Böden möglichst tief mit Wasser vollsaugen.
Wife & I took advantage of good weather + work to visit Waco TX. Been there once before but this time I saw #Waco offers a lot for a mid-sized "drive thru" city known for being midway Dallas-Austin (+ that FBI thing).
Like most cities in the region, Waco has nice parks, forests, trails, lakes, rivers, bridges, culture. We hiked/walked 28kms, visited a huge park, lake, rivers, + some trails, landmarks, Goodwills. Recommend 10/10.
Day 1 morning #Waco: 4.6km hike in the "very berry" hills of Cameron Park. Trail is shared "hike & bike", and I can't even begin to imagine how anyone might ride a bike there, but apparently people do.
Would've liked to hike more but decided to only get an idea of the trail for another visit and save energy for activities later in the day.
"Jacob's Ladder", great river & forest views, lots of hackberries, surprisingly large amt of bamboo.

September 8, 1983: It was mostly cloudy in Crawford Notch at 12:30 when I set out on the #AppalachianTrail. A nice, stiff breeze was blowing, the air was fresh and dry, and the day was much cooler than the last few had been. As usual, that 12:30 start was considerably later than I wanted it to be.
