I cast on a pair of worsted weight socks because I was looking for something that required less attention than the WIPs I had next to me and because I got this Icelandic Lettlopi just to make them. I have now made it to the point where I have to pick up stitches for the gusset so it is no longer brainless again. On the other hand, I continue to be amazed at how fast it is to make socks when they only require 40 stitches! #Knitting#FiberArts#sockKnitting@knitting@fiberarts
There've been a few very severe health crisis for people that are very near and dear to me. A few neighbors helped out a great deal when I couldn't be present because I'm across the country.
They are now getting socks because I know they love and cherish them a lot.
A small change of pace for today, working on my godmother's annual socks gift. It is all well and good starting them in plenty of time but I must remember to keep knitting on them! #SockKnitting#Knitting@knitting
It's #WIPWednesday and that can only mean one thing!
(it's me reposting all the projects I already posted to the various craft communities on #Lemmy earlier today)
Here we have an awkward double shot of my Steampunk World Map #BlackworkEmbroidery project, which is slow going as I add all those tiny shapes down the right hand side, and this self-designed spooky house silhouette #CrossStitch.
The house is so spooky, it gave me motion sickness earlier today. Yeah, you heard me.
Then I've also made good progress on the Halloween sock! Heel is turned, gusset is next, this might actually be finished in time for me to wear it on #Halloween 2023! 🤯
They are for my daughter who moved into a room where the floor will probably be rather cold in winter: ground floor (cellar below), building from ca 1900, wooden or tile floors.
The socks are made from Austermann Step Merino, which is 100% wool (only realized that at home, but the colors were just perfect). So those are socks to wear at home when sitting at the desk to study.
One more success from #FallFinishAlong -- I finished the second sock today!
Pattern: Comfy Soled Socks
Yarn: Universal Bamboo Pop (yes, it self stripes like that)
I don't usually bother to block socks but I think I might because the princess sole on these makes them look really weird, and these will be a gift. Also, I love the final look of this yarn but it definitely wasn't my favourite to knit with which is why this pair took almost a year to finish and it probably would still be in hibernation if it weren't for the knit along. The recipient needs things wool-free though so I couldn't use my usual go-to stock yarns. If anyone can recommend other animal-free sock yarns let me know, though!
The ball on the right was a mostly finished sock. But I ran out of yarn well before the toe and couldn't find a third ball of the (already discounted) colorway.
It's been collecting dust for a few months and the along has given me the necessary kick in the back to unravel it.
I'll let it sit for a bit so it unkinks and then I'll search for a new idea.
Another project finished - a pair of socks I started in May, I think. No fancy sock blockers for the picture as I'm away from home.
They're mostly plain vanilla socks in a rather large men's size. The fancy thing is that I added a simple knit-purl-pattern on top outside quarter and mirrored it to create matching socks. Just enough to keep me a bit entertained. No effort to match the colors was made.
This sock got paused for a bit because I needed to reread how the slip stitch padded heel instructions went, but I had an long work webcast today and then kiddo wanted to go to the park so I had more knitting time than usual for #FallFinishAlong -- of course I forgot to take pictures outside so you get present unwrapping detritus instead. 🎂
New socks! The socks on my feet are a much more colour accurate photo. Hermione's Everyday Sock. I do like the way the knit purl pattern basically looks a mess until you block them, and especially wear them :) #Knitting#SockKnitting@knitting
Second project for this craft-a-long - one sock down, one to go.
Progress is slow - I like the colors, the pattern stitch looks simple enough. But it takes an surprising amount of concentration to get the shifts correct, so it's not really mindless #knitting
I've also decided what to do with one of my other sockknitting projects: frogging. Adding an elaborate, fold-down cuff, size 10 feet and 100 g of yarn don't go together.
I've mostly been to sick to do much other than nap, but I did finish a sock for #FallFinishAlong while chilling with my kid on the couch watching Paw Patrol. 🐾
The pattern is called Comfy Soled Socks and it features a slipped stitch heel that goes over the bottom of the foot and then a princess sole (purled instead of knit). The latter was someone's recommendation when I asked about knitting non-wool socks. I'm not sure if the princess sole is actually noticeably different but I do like the slipped heel quite a bit!
These are destined to be a present for someone who needs to avoid wool for allergy reasons, so they're a bamboo/cotton/nylon blend. I didn't love the yarn when I cast on (one of many reasons it's been languishing) but I changed needles after the heel and it made a big difference. I'm not going to finish the second sock in time for her birthday but maybe Christmas or maybe it'll just be a late bday present since no one wants packages from me while I'm still actively sick anyhow!
I have these shorty socks that have been laying around for honestly l-have-no-idea-how-long-but-the-yarn-was-purchased-in-2020-and-so-was-the-pattern. They were languishing in the middle of the slip-stitch arch support band. I’ve finished the band and am working on the rest of the foot before the toe. Will be finished in the #FallFinishAlong#knitting#fiberarts#sockknitting@knitting
Getting a head start on the #FallFinishAlong with these socks that have been languishing in my work basket for almost a year because the pattern annoyed me so much. Really happy to pass them along to their new owner :)

So close to done with the toe of my second Hiking Boot Sock! These will be ready for finishing - weaving in ends, blocking - for the #fallfinishalong in September. Meanwhile, Jules is unimpressed.
Today seems to be a finishing day. Pair of socks now knitted, just need to graft the toes together. Pretty much identical as well. Basic sock pattern. #Knitting#SockKnitting@knitting
LOTS of bus travel for me today, so naturally I brought my sock project. Forgot I needed to frog the start of sock two and cast on again though. In public. Uhoh, pressure.
Well it is my pleasure to inform you that this morning I successfully remembered how to do a figure 8 cast on without looking up the instructions, for the first time ever 😎
