What the media won’t show you this Sunday: President Biden sat down with John Harwood. They covered 17 different issues facing our democracy.
I don’t post many videos. Often, a good 8 hours or so of them pass me in just a single day from those I follow.
This is 20 minutes and vital to what we’re all facing. Nobody else running is confronting these issues. The Republicans running are, of course, making all of them worse.
@SteveRogers
Most of everything else in the legacy media is an amplifier for fascism
Like... this Sunday afternoon 10/01/23 a host on #msnbc said #kevinmccarthy is acting (so true🙄) like His #shutdown save was his victory. The vote was like 209 D and, forgot... a lower number of R
So, let's see if the average media covers his "victory" as his way or the honest way
Mike Braun, Republican senator from Indiana, is one of just nine senators to vote against sending checks to our soldiers, sailors and Marines. Vote him out. #shutdown#HoosierMast
Call your Members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans, and tell them in no uncertain terms that it is unacceptable to fail to continue our robust support for Ukraine. #Ukraine#shutdown
Do not let anyone convince you that the Republicans who voted against funding aid for #Ukraine are in any way, shape, or form, giving a crap about #democracy.
My country is currently fighting for its very existence against a fascist and genocidal foreign power. Cutting aid to us IS a vote for fascist dictatorship. Support for Ukraine and defense against #RussianInvasion IS support for freedom.
Here are the enemies of the state. They tried to shut the government down. They failed. A #shutdown affects real families, real people. These #MAGA dipshits will never win. We are a nation strong with resolve. As #Fetterman said, "the American people should never have to worry about their government shutting down."
We're just waiting for Biden to announce he signed it, right? It's times like this I wish #cspan was free to everyone and always on. They could use @peertube.
The Republicans need to pay a price for allowing MAGA to terrorize federal workers, the poor, service members, and the rest of US like this. #VOTEDEM#Shutdown#MAGA#UnitedStates 🇺🇸
So, an overwhelming, bipartisan majority of both houses of Congress evidently not only want to keep the government open, they’re actually voting to do so. Democracy is amazing sometimes.
Imagine if every time you went to a doctor's appointment, they had a huge fight about whether you're allowed to see the doctor as scheduled. Imagine being on pins and needles in the waiting room about whether they're going to keep their commitment to see you.
Imagine if your daycare just shut down without warning every few months, leaving you and your child stranded, though you payed your bills.
Imagine if all of us just randomly failed to do our jobs, and still kept them.
I'm guessing that House Republicans are still going to oppose the House Republicans' plan and even if McCarthy gets it passed, he is still going to be ousted by House Republicans for putting something on the floor that the far-right doesn't agree with.
"It will not have border policy changes, a non-starter for Democrats, or funds for Ukraine that some Republicans opposed."
Any government shutdown is pretty damn foolish, but this one is exceptionally foolish. House Republicans just agreed in May to increase the debt limit for 2 years but then decided to go back against their own agreement.
"The bipartisan deal struck by Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy would extend the debt limit for two years alongside modest federal spending cuts and a series of policy provisions."
Sen. Amy #Klobuchar (D-MN) said #Senate#Democrats have concluded that #uninterrupted#aid to #Ukraine is their top goal, adding that aid negotiations will be saved for a supplemental request.
“I believe there’s a bunch of #Republicans who are w/ Ukraine. The big test … is going to be what happens w/the supplemental & what happens in the next few weeks,” she said.
#Senate consideration of the #stopgap bill that was passed by the #House is being #delayed by Senator Michael #Bennet, #Democrat of Colorado, his colleagues say. Bennet reportedly wants a promise of quick consideration of #aid to #Ukraine.
The Senate version of the #CR included
> $6 billion in Ukraine aid.
Senators say the leadership is working on a written commitment. But a long delay could trigger a #shutdown if the Senate doesn’t act by midnight.
"The threat of a federal government #shutdown was suddenly easing Saturday after the #House quickly approved a temporary funding bill to keep agencies open, once Speaker Kevin #McCarthy dropped demands for steep spending cuts and relied on Democratic votes for passage.
"The bill would fund the government until Nov. 17.
