Back in 2017 I had an issue with my Hakko soldering iron and found a fix but it was a YouTube video and I didn't trust I would find it again so I wrote up a blog post, linked to the video, and also wrote text instructions.
The idea being I could quickly look at my own blog post if I needed the info again... and I just did.
I think a lot of people do blog posts for others but you can totally do them for your future self too!
'#Sharing with minimal #regulation? Evidence from neighborhood book exchange' by Anouk Schippers and Adriaan Soetevent is April's #OpenAccess publication in the spotlight.
Their study shows that peer-to-peer book exchanges, like little free #libraries, experience minimal free riding due to strong #SocialNorms among users, with a return rate of 9 #books for every 10 taken.
I had a bit more to say about this and my own site is a great place to do it. I love Mastodon but I'm trying to put more on my own site when I think it makes sense. (And we need more people to do that!)
From the tusky app I go to three dots, share link to post. In the options it pops up I choose "create QR code". This then displays a full screen #qrcode that the other person scans with their phone.
So far this has been 100% successful with pretty much everybody, shows the post, no login and I think helps normalize mastodon to more of my local IRL community.
Does anyone know whether there is a project to stock libraries in developing countries with unwanted academic journals from our offices? A colleague is downsizing and has over a decade of JACS that might end up in a recycling bin if there is no alternative. Can you spread the word as I'm curious about what we might be able to do. #academic#sharing#journals@dbellingradt do you and your histodons and bookdons know about this kind of thing?
Today calls for embracing unity. Connect with family or community; share meals, stories, and support. This fosters understanding and peace, nurturing bonds that heal.

Aus einer Initiative (KASIMIR in #Köln) sind inzwischen 173 geworden, und es ist immer ein Fest, die Aktiven der einzelnen Initiativen (wieder-) zu treffen.
Tried SquadCast for my remote recording session with my friend and colleague. It's very good and smooth that we both have video in app plus separate recordings for every participant. But: it's rather expensive!
Anyone have suggestions for voice/sound recordings for remote sessions that's cheaper?
A great afternoon skill sharing at the #Glasgow#RepairCafe yesterday. Lots of the team learned to solder, while others learned to not fear the sewing machine and how to darn.
