I've been buying these little boxes from AliExpress for years to use as firewalls and routers. My oldest one is almost 9 years old now! OpenBSD installs just fine. Just a BIOS tweak to always boot up after power is restored.
To the #calckey experts: what’s the expected time of arrival for version 14? I have spent 2 full days to get #selfhosted#Mastodon to accept my SMTP settings, with very little success … I am ready for trying something else ;). Is version 14 coming soon or should I go with the latest stable 13.x version? Want to avoid unnecessary update work… @fediversenews
Anyone know of a good way I can have some #selfhosted service set as an #ethernet#networking gateway which I can then toggle on/off - killing all traffic I route that way?
Yes, I am looking for an easier way of manually cutting teenager internet access.
I have a spare Z69 4K Android TV box here and no use for it at the moment. It served for a few years as exactly what is was sold for, later I flashed Kodi on it for a while and after that it served as a WFH RDP Client for another while with Armbian flashed on it....
Hey #FOSS people, I am looking for a #selfhosted solution that will analyse the photos from my smartphone, guess what's on them and allow searching by thing or place. You know, something that iPhotos does on an iPhone. Any suggestions?
Does anyone know of any simple #selfhosted file drop software?
Not to be confused with file transfer such as transfer.sh. I want anyone to be able to upload files but only authorised users should be able to download them, not even the person who uploaded the files.
Could someone explain #Docker to me? How self contained is it? I would like to run my own #Pixelfed instance alongside my #Mastodon instance (on the same machine preferably). Possible? Bad idea? Would Docker make this easier? Thanks. #selfhost#mastoAdmin#selfhosted#footiMac
I suspect #footiMac is getting a little overtaxed. But I am wondering if other #selfhosted#mastoAdmin have a thought about these messages in Sidekiq for dead processes? Too many files open, on my end or the remote end?
Is there maybe a FAQ available for small admins like me to look to that might show the most common indicators of problems on a Mastodon host?
I remain concerned that Java/Elastisearch is putting more load on my server than is really warranted. Thoughts? #help#MastoHelp#Mastodon#SelfHost
Has anyone used this? I haven't seen it recommended before in the typical arr stack and it seems like its infinitely more useful for those who are trying to easily maintain ratio on private trackers.
Do you want to add a "log in with your fediverse account" functionality to your site? I am working on a self-hosted node.js server that lets you do just that.
... wow. Last night I added some code to @vandam to detect inefficient file formats in my 3d model library. The scan this morning isn't a quarter done and it's already found 700 files that are just wasting space by using ASCII formats.
I've really surprised myself by making something useful.
That feeling when you're cleaning your desk after a 17 day vacation, and decide to rearrange a few things, but it requires you to reroute power, so you just shut down your laptop and flip the power strip off... only to wonder later why your #selfhosted#mastodon server is offline, and then you realize, you also powered off your Mac Mini ESXi host earlier... ...And now we're back up. 🤣
I have a TCL tv with (with google smart TV software) and have been ingesting TV shows, games, and movies primarily from an xbox using various paid streaming apps for like 15 years. As streaming costs go up I’ve wanted to set up a media server compatible with playing stuff from the xbox and have had some friends suggest Plex so...
Folks with #selfhosted#music libraries, I've heard some folks say that they have 10TB of audio files in their libraries. Approximately how many individual tracks is that? I'm assuming that it's a lot of lossless files, but I'm curious what the average file size is and the number of files that comprise such a library.
What to do with a Z69 Android Box?

Ideas for setting up a media server compatible with xbox viewing?
