God I hate #Plesk so much...

  1. I have to jump hoops to manage my #PostgreSQL server, because my Plesk license doesn't cover PostgreSQL.
  2. It keeps annoying me about buying shit.
  3. It defaults to #Apache and supports #NGINX only as a caching proxy in front of Apache.
  4. Said NGINX support is broken af, making you click options in a specific order for them to work at all.

I want to get rid of it so bad but I don't want to set up all those #mail servers from scratch 😭

#SysAdmin #SelfHosted

damien,

@fell what issues have you had with nginx? Lots of our customers (I run a hosting company) run their sites via nginx (without Apache) on Plesk just fine.

For the postgres bit, I'd suggest to either manage it manually (Plesk won't touch it?) or pay a few $ for Plesk to do so.

Basically most problems with any management system come from fighting against it rather than working with it. But, if you can share more details with me I may be able to give some pointers to ease things - if you like.

@fell maybe give Mailcow a try. It uses rspamd instead of SpamAssassin though.

@felsqualle @meyca I don't want to use Mailcow because it requires Docker. I dislike Docker for various reasons. I want to get away from commercial companies, not hop from one to the next 😅

appzer0,
lardfish,

@fell i’m really curious as to what your reasons are for not liking docker. I have found docker to be so incredibly powerful having everything built into the container itself not having to worry about dependencies. Everything built-in ready to go.

jpl,

@fell Many years ago I used #Froxlor as a free alternative to Plesk. Don't know how much mail stuff it does out of the box, or if it has Postgres support.

@jpl Looks very old-school with PHP and MySQL and stuff. I might just bite the bullet and do it manually from scratch...

schmkr,

@fell not sure if it ticks all the boxes, but I'm following https://github.com/stalwartlabs/mail-server and need to find some time to give it a try myself.

@fell have tried #mailcow
I've used it a couple of years ago before i switched to a managed solution.
