I have never understood Nepal. All my childhood I was told it is a Hindu monarchy. Suddenly there was a Maoist government and a new constitution and democracy. Not long ago did they boycott a movie because they found it had derogatory content about a mythological character. Now they have made same sex marriage legal. This mysterious mountain country has all my love.
The Vatican, with Pope Francis's approval, says that transsexuals and children of same-sex couples can be baptized. And while it's always good to counter weaponization of the sacraments, I try to think of reasons trans people or children of same-sex couples would want to be baptized into a religous community so singularly hostile to and unwelcoming of them.
The global Catholic synodal gathering recently released its report without a single mention of LGBTQ human beings. Not one openly LGBTQ human being was invited to participate in the synod — which was sold as a process of wide, inclusive listening. During the synodal discussions, Archbishop Archbishop Andrew Nkea of Bamenda said, "In Africa, we understand marriage as a union between a man and a woman, and anything short of that is witchcraft."
#Emmer (MN), the #House maj whip, was elected as the #GOP pick on a 5th ballot in an internal race that drew 9 #Republicans. It’s not clear, however, that he has enough support to be elected on the House floor. To prevail, Emmer would need a majority of the full chamber.
