It's important to recognize that the US anti-abortion movement is one facet – a leading and powerful one – of a global movement whose ultimate goal is to roll back rights for women and LGBTQ people and enshrine the privileges of straight men, of patriarchy, in law. Jodi Enda's report provides important information about this global initiative and its consequences.
"A rightwing Christian lobby group that wants abortion to be banned has forged ties with an adviser to the prime minister and is drawing up policy briefings for politicians.
The UK branch of the US-based Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) has more than doubled its spending since 2020 and been appointed a stakeholder in a parliamentary group on religious freedoms in a role that grants it direct access to MPs."
As Chris Geidner notes, though the bogus Alliance Defending Freedom mifepristone case may be a bridge too far for the Supremes, Alito and Thomas gave a "flashing warning sign" by asking about the applicability of the Comstock act. The right-wing cabal may be preparing to uphold availability of mifepristone only to bring in their "fix" by the back door via the Comstock act.
She wins #pigoftheday contest. #loriesmith is the new face of right wing extremist activist legal group #alliancedefendingfreedom. It was a made up, hypothetical “what if” lawsuit funded by a hate group. Yet, she literally has no wedding website design business and was never asked to work on a website for a gay wedding. #pigoftheday has nothing to do with physical appearance, it’s all about promoting hate.
"A rightwing Christian 'hate group' which is behind a host of legal efforts to roll back abortion rights, remove anti-LGBTQ+ protections and demonize trans people has seen a huge increase in its funding and has funneled some of that money to a slew of smaller anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-abortion groups across the US."
"The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a registered nonprofit behind the ongoing 303 Creative supreme court case which could chip away at LGBTQ+ rights, saw its revenue surge by more than $25m between 2020 and 2021, a period in which a rightwing obsession with transgender rights and sexual orientation saw almost 200 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in states around the US."
There's a new detrans lawsuit with the same lawyers, similar facts, and even naming many of the same doctors as Chloe Cole's. Like Cole's it has a narrative structure tailored to the needs of the right wing press. Some text seems to be copy/pasted.
Certainly none of the science is any good, but it's curious they found two similar stories in close proximity, given how rare detransition is. Anything's possible, including the chance they really found a bad doctor.
