Watching this #documentary.

#Sudan, ancient #Nubia, is home to many unique natural & #archaeological treasures. This land of the #Black #pharaohs has even has more #pyramids than its famous neighbour, Egypt – yet there are no visitors, no tourists & no foreign travellers. #CutOff from the rest of the world, Sudan, a former safe haven for international #terrorists, is one of the most #unstable countries on the planet.

Great Mystery of How Ancient Egyptians Built The Pyramids Finally Appears Solved
17 May 2024 By Juliette Collen, AFP

"...Archaeologists had long thought that ancient Egyptians must have used a nearby waterway to move the giant materials used to build the pyramids.

"But nobody was certain of the location, the shape, the size or proximity of this mega waterway to the actual pyramids site," lead study author Eman Ghoneim of the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the United States told AFP.

The international team of researchers used radar satellite imagery to map the river branch, which they called Ahramat – "pyramids" in Arabic.

Radar gave them the "unique ability to penetrate the sand surface and produce images of hidden features including buried rivers and ancient structures," Ghoneim said..."

A fantastic aerial photo of the #Giza plateau: the #pyramids are not nearly as remote as many people think. Nowadays they are flanked on three sides by the roads and neighborhoods of Giza, one of #Egypt's largest cities.

You are charged with making a presentation for alien visitors about a great thing that humans have accomplished. What would you show them?

You don't need to accomplish anything in particular with your presentation just show something you sincerely feel represents humanity and represents us well. Sincerity matters most.

Further, you don't need to try to represent all of humanity. People all over the world will have the same chance. You just need to show the part you care and know about best.

Infrapink,

@futurebird This might be cliché, but #pyramids. Start with the ones in #Egypt. Talk about how the second-oldest civilisation managed to build such impressive structures with bronze tools.

Then show them the ones in #Mexico. Point out the clever perspective trick to make the sides of the staircases appear parallel from the ground.

Maybe also throw in the #NazcaLines, and be sure to mention that the #Quechua didn't even have writing at the time.
