The Supreme Court is taking up the first of two cases that could affect the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump for his efforts to overturn his election loss in 2020.
The witness Robin Bryant-Yeartie, a friend of #FaniWillis, asserts that the romantic relationship between Willis & #NathanWade began before Wade was hired by the DA‘s office. This contradicts Wade’s asssertion that the romance did not begin until after he began working for Willis.
Trump asked the justices to put on hold an appeals court ruling that rejected his broad claim of #PresidentialImmunity in relation to events leading up to the #Jan6 attack on the Capitol.
When a fed appeals court last wk rejected the claim, it temp paused its ruling, saying it would rtn the case to #trial court Mon, allowing Judge #Chutkan to restart proceedings….the appeals court said it would extend the pause until #SCOTUS rules—if Trump files…for a stay.

At one point, Judge Florence Pan presented Sauer w/a hypothetical situation, asking if a president could be #criminally charged for ordering SEAL Team 6 to #assassinate a #political rival. Sauer said that a #prosecution would be possible in that situation only if the president had first been found #guilty in an #impeachment proceeding.
Trump is making a legal claim, appealing to the Supreme Court, that no acts committed while in office as President may be prosecuted.
I don’t think he’s thought this through. If he’s correct, and SCOTUS rules in his favor, there is absolutely nothing to stop the sitting President, I.e. Joe Biden, from revoking Trump’s US citizenship, or locking him up in a black site somewhere, or taking even more extreme measures.
This claim of racially motivated #prosecution is absurd. These two #black#Georgia defendants are being prosecuted by a black DA alongside 17 white co-defendants. Just because you're black and facing #criminal charges doesn't mean the prosecution is racially motivated. This just proves these two defendants are as #dishonest and #ridiculous as the rest.
Sounds like France's prosecution was a major fail -- claiming the alleged hackers had attacked more than 200 companies, when their case only had 5 victims, and claiming millions of euros involved, when defense showed they only demonstrated 5,000 euros.
Trump continued to #attack#James, #Engoron & the trial itself in posts to his social media platform this morning.
He again suggested that the trial is an attempt to interfere w/ his presidential campaign & complained about the lack of a jury in the trial.

Suarez asked why #MarkPomerantz, a fmr prosecutor in the DA's case, said in his book that Mazars sent Bender in to meet w/them w/o his own counsel & told Mazars it was in a precarious legal position. Bender said he was “satisfied” w/his #legal representation & wasn’t aware of that convo between Pomerantz & Mazars.

In his mind, the fact that she rebuked his baseless demand for information he's not entitled to is somehow proof that her #prosecution of #Trump is politically motivated, and unjustified.
