The man brought out sacks filled with manuscripts. Most were in terrible condition — bloated beyond repair. Some had torn pages and mold growing on them. Others were in mint condition, and included some of the finest works that he had ever seen.

The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu #bookstodon#librarians#manuscripts#Timbuktu
Come work with me at the University of Manitoba Libraries! We're currently recruiting for the positions of Arts & Humanities Liaison Librarian (Indigenous) and Social Sciences Liaison Librarian (Indigenous). Please see the links below to view the postings:
I'm so terrible at remembering hash tags #libraries#lis#glam#LibraryWork#Librarians - looking for folks who have LIS undergrad degrees who would be willing to answer a few questions over email
Our school district has been taken over by whack jobs and one of the members just gave us our first book challenge in over a decade. Now we’re in a FB battle. She can’t spell but she sure is a gaslighter. Please send chocolate. #bannedbooks#bannedbooksweek#LGBTQ#libraries#librarians#help
I am functionally incapable of not giving a helpful answer to a question.
I believe this is due to being infected w/ the #Librarians#Virus when I worked at the #science library in college. There was no vaccine at the time. The virus eventually takes over to such a degree that even when asked how to judge the ripeness of a melon by complete strangers a demonstration on the technique & auditory assessment of thumping is inevitable... I’m not a melancholy, I’ve accepted my fate.😜 #Dogs#Humor ish
The Librarianist, by Patrick deWitt. You are an elderly retired librarian who had two ‘interesting’ things happen in your life (both over 50 years ago) and it’s occurring to you that maybe you’ve been hiding the rest of your life, and there might be time to move on. 3 of 5 library cats 🐈 🐈 🐈.
Dear fellow #SystematicReview enthusiasts, #Bibliometrics experts, #librarians, and other people who work regularly with bibliographic databases (e.g. PsycINFO, EmBase, PubMed, etc) and interfaces (e.g. by Ovid, Ebsco, etc) 👋
Our library recently decided to discontinue licenses for EmBase, Cinahl, and Cochrane.
What I missed when deciding is an overview of overlap between these databases and others (e.g. PubMed).
“Every day professional #librarians sit down with parents to thoughtfully determine what reading material is best suited for their children’s needs.
Now, many library workers face threats to their employment, their personal safety, and in some cases, threats of prosecution for providing books to youth that they and their parents want to read.
The librarians are getting threats.
The culture wars are leaking from metaphor to actuality.
I was shelving picture #books at the #library and saw one by Cory Doctorow who is awesome but I had no idea he wrote for kids🙆🏻♀️
Looked like a fun, kinda #Halloween book
so I put it face out where parental units could find it easily 😉😏 #subversive#Librarians@pluralistic 🤩
The U.K. Government Is Very Close To Eroding Encryption Worldwide
"The U.K. Parliament is pushing ahead with a sprawling internet regulation bill that will, among other things, undermine the privacy of people around the world. The Online Safety Bill, now at the final stage before passage in the House of Lords, gives the British government the ability to force backdoors into messaging services, which will destroy end-to-end encryption. No amendments have been accepted that would mitigate the bill’s most dangerous elements. "
Monitoring dissent!
"A startling revelation indicates that the #UK#government has substantially amplified its surveillance of the online activity of educators. Ranging from leading education experts to #teaching assistants and #librarians earning modest salaries, the magnifying glass of surveillance closely monitors posts critiquing #education policies. The discovery was made by The Observer, revealing that the Department for Education is keeping extensive records of such posts, something that we’ve previously covered."
