Just got off a call with the editor-in-chief of a journal that moved from paywall-based publishing with Cambridge University Press to university-hosted independent publishing under a diamond OA model (no APCs) with PKP/OJS.

TL;DR it's going great.

Submissions are up, quality has been maintained, and now over 50% of papers have one or more Global South-based authors (previously ~10%). @OpenAlex data]

If you have anything that might be improved, please let me know.

Let's see, how long it will take me to convert the old latex code, written with styles for Stauffenburg to the LangSci-Setting.

Did you miss the University of Alberta Library #Editorial Lunch and Learn featuring multilingual publishing with #OpenJournalSytems?

Start with this thread!

Why #MultilingualPublishing? When English is viewed as the standard for #ScholarlyPublishing, a lot of research is missed or minimalized.

Language-inclusivity improves #metadata, #indexing & #discoverability.

Consider using #OJS settings as part of an alternative publishing model 🧵 ⤵️

Maybe the hosts should look at themselves when it comes to data tracking. Why is the presentation hold via zoom?

Here you can read more about why zoom should be avoided: https://bigbrotherawards.de/en/2023/zoom

Unfortunately many interesting talks use zoom.
Please stop using zoom.

ROMA VOICES IN HISTORY. A Sourcebook. Volume Editors: Elena Marushiakova
and Vesselin Popov. 2021

"This ground-breaking book is an impressively extensive collection of primary historical sources in various languages that reflect the history of the Roma (formerly referred to as ‘Gypsies’ in local languages). The selection of the included materials reflects the authentic voice of the Roma themselves, and presents their visions and the specific goals pursued by the Roma civic emancipation movement. The source materials are published in original and translated in English, and are accompanied by explanatory notes and summarising comments discussing the specific historical realities and their interrelation to the Romani emancipatory movement in Central and Eastern Europe, thus presenting a comprehensive picture of the historical processes."
