I wish the editor who captioned this pair of photos a nice day. I wish to borrow some of your energy.
(Also bless for the editor who gave a serious alt texts not seen below)
I don’t know if it’s clear here but this is my jar of #woodlice#isopods#arthropods. They’ve been happily munching away on dead leaves 🍁 for months like this now.
A while back I thought it would be cool to make a moss "stage" to photo my pretty little pillbugs on, but my model spent most of her time quickly trying to escape rather than exploring the lush green landscape. #pets#insects#isopods#mosstodon
Everyone thinks of #isopods as cute little guys, but they have another side... Read about Urizen and Dante the excessively aggressive isopod boys. They are into biting (tickles apparently... but don't tell them) and Big Gains.
In the carpark near the beach in CT I discovered a group of isopods up to no good.
The pill bugs had formed a pentagram of beach trash, mostly delicate bones of birds & fish. It was about the size of a quarter. They kept adjusting it and adding to it as I watched, horrified, yet fascinated.
I was so engrossed in the mysterious antics of the little woodlice that I didn't even notice the man who'd joined me watching, until he spoke.
"Amazing aren't they?" He said, his voice deep, but warm. 1/18
I’m hoping to get a new pet #RollyPolly but I have a problem. I don’t know where to catch one in the middle of summer. I’m in a suburban area in the #pnw (US Pacific Northwest). Does anyone have ideas for where to look? Or should I just wait until fall/winter? #isopods#Isopoda#isopod
days 39-40 of my #100DaysChallenge of drawing animals. I continued working on some watercolors and more intentionally to be finished stuff - with the result that except for the elephants that were actually finished at this point, the rest is still languishing in my room in the same state like, 2 weeks or so later. Gah. I hope I'll have the energy to actually finish them this week!
on day 87 of drawing animals I was tired and completely underestimated how hard giant #Isopods would be to draw for me. I am still a bit confused about it. Might try them again some time when I am more awake, maybe that really was the thing that tripped me up. Still, I did not falter! And still sticking with the marine theme for #Mermay.
