I have a question for my computer friends. Is it possible to manually upgrade a laptop's GPU ram? I know its possible for desktop computers thanks to @rook and @Leonianuniverse, but if there's a way to do it peacemeal with laptops, I would love to know. 'Hunter Biden sued former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and another attorney over alleged violations of computer fraud and data access related to a laptop computer Biden is said to have left at a Delaware repair shop.'
Trying to revive this ancient and already in its day, deficient Compaq Presario CQ42 to be donated, and while the new RAM upgrade was detected by the BIOS, it still is being snagged up by the boot process even with antiXlinux installed.
I may have to go to the extreme and disconnect the laptop keyboard to see if the frequent keyboard jitters are affecting the boot process.
There should be a physical retail store that sells just keyboards and mice (the ones that pople like to do reviews on youtube - Kinesis, ZSA, etc) AND that has an apple store style design. Maybe they could sell Linux laptops too.
No, not Best Buy. i mean a store with better quality
It's purposefully designed to make #repair economically unviable!
This shit should be made illegal by @EU_Commission because not even ATEX-certified radios and diving computers have that level of designed-in #unrepairability, and they even have fecking valid reasons to not be easy to be opened.
@Hawkwinter IDK, but imagine if you coudn't change the oil (swap an SSD) but could only swap an entire drivetrain (mainboard) and you'd have to either scavenge used cars or buy a new one to scavenge and good luck if your model is discontinued...
Hey fedi I need like some ASAP help for my laptop repair
I took apart the laptop, but the battery was double sided adhesive to the frame. The adhesive stuck to the old battery and the new one doesn't have any. What do I need to replace the adhesive or what is a good solution until I can get a proper solution
pictures in reply. Also any tips for cleaning as well this is my first repair
I remember on #Mastodon people used to post these old skool #laptops and shit - I think they were new laptops design to look real crappy and old or something.
And I always wanted one of them ...
Although the screen was a bit low res. I think it was #coding or something. idk.
Dear community, for a teens coding event series in #frankfurt this fall, we are searching for sponsored #laptops that we could use to work with the kids.
Interesting, As of July this year, Windows market share has fallen to a record low 57%. That still leaves it as the largest OS, but it's a big change from say 10 years ago when it was over 80%. Most of that loss has gone to MacOS, and some to Linux. ChromeOS has also fallen a bit recently.
I'd like to think this is because more privacy minded people are ditching Microsoft and Google's OS's, But most people don't care at all about privacy, so I wonder what is causing this shift?
Since #Apple's devices are literally designed to be #fragile, I do think it's safe to assume if not demand that having parts from a donor machine should allow one to fix an issue...
Just like on any major brand laptop.
Even #hp and it's #ProBook#Laptops with their #FUD-based #VendorLock for #RAM that literally bricks #PXE and remote/headless/timer-based booting don't literally lock up unbootable if you were to take a differen ProBook's RAM sticks, WIFI, WWAN, SSD, Keyboard, Screen.
Many people have forgotten about PCMCIA, but in its time, it was the widely accepted way to add functionality to laptops and other mobile devices. In this video we use a Toshiba Libretto notebook computer to recover data from an old PCMCIA SD Card.

Ctrl+Alt+Del: Foldable laptops are bad, and Apple can fix them (www.trustedreviews.com)
Foldable phones are really starting to find their feet. The same can’t be said for foldable laptops, they are bad. But, Apple can fix that.
