Highly recommend this follow for all fiber fans. I learn so much from Jesssica McDonald, mostly from posts on her blog page, also her emails. She's a good explainer. You'll find yarn reviews there too. The more you know!
PS: IDK if she's here on Mastodon but if yes, please post link. Thanks!
Love Mastodon/Fedi for a lot of reasons but the wholesome content here is really refreshing what with... (motions at everything)
I follow the #FibreArts hashtag and just enjoy folks enjoying their hobbies and projects. I don't stitch or knit myself, though my wife is a designer so I see a lot of this at home, I just like seeing folks making lovely stuff and sharing
So, this is my school blazer. I last wore it in 1981. After I took it off I put it in the loft as a sentimental keepsake. Now, 42 years later, I've taken it out and am wondering why the hell I'm keeping it. No one else is ever going to want it. But it's tricky to throw away having kept it for so long. So what do I do? My current plan is to keep it in sight until I get fed up of it and then bin it. Ideas? #sewing#fibreart#fibrearts
I've picked up a WIP that I've been avoiding for a while.
It's a shawl in a long banana shape, and the main part has garter stitch, twisted ribbing and lace which is completed.
Now I'm up to the lacy border, worked sideways and knitted onto the body as you go.
I've never joined this way so had been putting off knitting.
Bit the bullet today and started. Done the first set of rows of 28 sets and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is.
Yes, I have oodles of knitting WIPs but as usual I started something else. 😂
I thought I'd experiment with lace on a pair of socks. Did 2 lines of diamond lattice on the front of the sock from toe to cuff.
Check out this lady in Germany who knits... @PinkQueenYarns. She owns a yarn store and all her samples are worked up in pink palettes. She vigorously explores the color, and has a great eye for patterns. A WestKnits test knitter - check out what she did with Shifting Chevrons and #Geogradient! Both on the first search page of her Ravelry project page.
Good evening Knitterati! I'm slogging along through the 40 rows of garter stitch, a bit more than half way through. This Neighborhood Fiber Co. Rustic Fuingering is a delight, and loving how it pairs with Queensland Collection Perth in 102 King's Canyon. Cobvisd be damn3d, knitting will proceed!!
On the needles at the moment are too many WIPs - one short sleeved tshirt, one Aran cardigan, 2 scarves, 3 shawls, 2 pairs socks. think I should work on finishing them....
Oops, instead I started a new pair of scrappy socks. 😜 😂
The Scottish Traditional Music Archive Directory is now live! 🥳
The directory brings together organisations in and outside Scotland with collections of Scottish traditional music.
Users can identify collection holders, find information on their catalogues, get in touch with them, and compare collections from different organisations.
I always wear hand-knits for big work things - it gives me a wee bit more confidence. So for today's launch of the Scottish Traditional Music Archive I wore my Effervescent jumper by Aimee Sher.
Good morning, Knitterati - Look at this clever knitting/crochet bag, made in America! Lots of grommets to guide yarn, nicely finished inside, large color selection, monogrammable. They have a great selection of work aprons too.

OK folks, I think the eye will "fill in" the low-contrast beginning of this mosaic section...
Another 1/2 of the diamond shape to go. If sections at the top are a bit too light when I can spread the whole thing out and really see, I think adding a few duplicate stitches in a high contrast shade will respove it.
Whew! Really did not want to frog the whole thing!!
Here we go, completed the first section of mosaic on Stephen West's Mosaic Musings shawl. Finally!
Spent most of the week knitting, tearing out, knitting again, switching needles, switching projects, more knitting and unknitting. So POW! Finally hitting on all cylinders.
Not sure about proceeding with the #Geogradient shawl MKAL, I'm having a hard time getting back in the swing of things. We'll see!
I am recovering from a brain tumor and paralysis, living at longterm care/rehab center (unfortunately, pretty bare-bones sucky) while I learn to walk again.
Part of my recovery is to knit - fine motor skills! But my stash is utterly pathetic, as is my bank account.
If you have a bit of yarn to spare from your stash, could you send me a ball or skein? Thank you greatly for your donation! Address follows. 🙏🧶💞
Re: This toot... for the curious, yes I'd still love donations from your destashing. Have lots of synthetics now + assortment of natural fibers. If anyone feels so inclined, I could use a bit more in various silks, wools (merino, llama, mohair etc.), plant fibers (linen, bamboo, seacell etc.). Each skein is like a paint brush, isn't it?!! Honestly life sucks in the nursing home, and yarn helps!
