There is now an (intermediate) option for setting federated repos via UI.
Based on that we are currently developing the sending of activities to distribute stars to the federated repos.
We also noticed that there are some things to consider, regarding activity sending. Feel invited to share your thoughts on this. 🙂
The biggest misconception I see on #Threads about #federation is that a ton of people think they need to “link” their Threads account to a Mastodon account. As if it were a cross-posting feature.
Maybe Threads could do a better job explaining federation or maybe so many years of siloed social networks has made a world where the idea of email or web-style interoperability doesn’t immediately come to mind.
Either way, I’m doing my best to kindly explain it to folks over there 🫡
Servers in the fediverse have a responsibility to make decisions they believe are right for their users, like moderation—and naturally, some folks might disagree with those decisions.
But that’s a huge advantage of the fediverse: you can choose or move to a server that you trust, that you agree with, etc. and still interact with the rest of the fediverse; you can even bring your followers with e.g. if you switch between Mastodon servers!
As a reminder, choosing whether or not you want to see/interact with posts from a specific server is also something you’re empowered to do as a user. On Mastodon, for example, you can block any individual account or even an entire server if you know you don’t want to interact with any account from there.
As a practical example, if you don’t want to engage with Facebook/Meta/Threads, it’s two taps to block threads.net—should you care to do so. 💪

Folgendes ist aus unserer Sicht die beste Möglichkeit, sich auf dem Laufenden zu halten und dabei spezifischen Content eines bevorzugten Publishers zu bekommen: den Flipboard-Magazinen zu folgen, um kuratierte Artikel zu bestimmten Themen zu erhalten.
Was bedeutet das konkret? Wenn du dich für Wirtschaftsnachrichten oder Klimapolitik interessierst, kannst du den Magazinen eines Publishers ausschließlich zu diesen Themen folgen, oder wenn du alle Inhalte sehen willst, kannst du dem Profil des Publishers folgen – so hast du mehr Möglichkeiten, die Art der Inhalte, die du in deinem Home-Feed siehst, anzupassen.
Das föderierte Profil eines Publishers ist nur eine weitere Möglichkeit, seinen Inhalten zu folgen und mit ihnen zu interagieren.
So folgst du einzelnen Magazinen über Mastodon:
Verwende die Suche, um nach den Magazinen eines Publishers zu suchen (Die Liste an bisher föderierten Publisher haben wir in unserem Profil angeheftet).
Wähle "Alle ansehen" bei den Suchergebnissen aus.
Folge nun den thematischen Magazinen, die dich interessieren. Wir haben hierzu einen Screenshot von ZEIT ONLINE als Beispiel hinzugefügt.
I don't like to force people to take on more complexity in their lives. We're all maxed out. But that said, if you want to take real control of your social media experience when it comes to Threads, defederation, or not, and you consider yourself the least bit comfortable with technology then there are some excellent, easy, and very affordable (like Netflix in the before days :)) ways to #selfhost your own Mastodon server. https://masto.host is the one I recommend.
