LOL, ordered and paid for a part online for an "authorized dealers only" manufacturer, and the local dealer has no record of it... yet. Will see if they get it Monday or Tuesday. Surprised these folks haven't figured out e-commerce yet. (Stihl... decent equipment, but apparently has not yet hit the 1990's in terms of online technology). #ecommerce
Have so much extra stuff in my house I need to move on, I've mostly done eBay the last 20 some years but it's been DEAD on there lately. Throwing some stuff on Mercari today to try it out, my friend's had luck on there. Looks kinda promising. Only thing I hate about it is that it's like Amazon, the seller gets paid after the buyer receives the item. I've never liked that, having to front shipping money, but here we are. Also, Mercari's shipping estimates are too low/not updated with USPS' much higher prices now either, I noticed, so I'm just gonna ship myself, I don't want them compensating me wrong, shipping is pretty expensive now. But here we go. Fronting shipping to to try and move some of this stuff. 🙄🤣
So #Amazon's coming to #SouthAfrica. I'm kind of hoping they don't do well here, because I'm not a fan of Amazon, their employment practices, their KDP Select and other aggressive ebook practices.
And we have a super mature #ecommerce environment already, what with #Takealot and #Loot and plenty of smaller sites. Not to mention #Checkers and #PickNPay with their grocery deliveries.
So I think we have what it takes to not only survive but thrive this bully's entrance into our market. I just hope we don't screw it up. The last thing I want is an American company coming in and dominating South African ecommerce. Especially not Amazon.

With a custom payment integration, creating PaymentIntents was fairly straight forward. But pivoting to Subscriptions was awkwardly documented with a strong push to their hosted checkout page & "low code" solutions.

Create a Subscription to a predefined recurring Price (inside a predefined Product).
Pass the included PaymentIntent to the credit card element.
It's bad enough that #PayPal stiffs you more than 10% for cash transfers (a particular bugbear for us writers), but they're now also going to enshittify the whole process, selling our personal data to boot.
Which raises the question - why isn't there a #`FOSS equivalent of PayPal? Is it possible?
