WhatsApp introduces "ask meta ai" in the local chat search bar, and Slack auto-feeds messages to train their LLM robots https://eigenmagic.net/@NewtonMark/112455578857917485 ... Delta Chat is among the shrinking number of messaging applications that does not look at your data except to end-to-end encrypt it and send it over interoperable message transport servers chosen by yourselves and your contacts. #decentralization#security#privacy ftw!
We have two new team members First, we are massively pleased that @Shu has agreed to join us to help out with monitoring, observability and visualisation of operations.
Second, we’re delighted to welcome Nic, who joins as product manager. This is an essential role as we move out of the R&D phase into delivery.
We have a new stable test network for you as PunchNet winds down. Impressive work as always from the community, and it’s wonderful to see all the dashboards brightening up the thread.
I regularly think about this essay about the evolution of #centralization in computing. It focuses on businesses and research, but I have a feeling that the next stage of #decentralization will happen via the general public.
We don't have to rely on energy-hungry, leak-prone servers to run 24/7 to do our basic tasks. We need more local-first computing.
"If you just imagine teleporting yourself back to 1970, and somone who was looking forward to the PC revolution - which was going to happen in just a few years - was like 'alright, we're not going to have entire rooms full of computer stuff anymore, and you're not going to have a mainframe that you connect to to do everything. Everything's going to work on these little boxes people have in their home'."
We have a new testnet out, following successful poking at the recent alpha network. Thanks to all those who have tried it so far.
And we are pleased to say the node manager is performing well now, so we advise that as the default way of deploying nodes as it provides several additional controls, particularly with regard to upgrading.
Thanks as usual to the noble testers our first Technical Beta Network is still going good guns, and is proving as stable as we’ve come to expect.
We have a new separate testnet to test potential changes over here. This will run alongside the stable beta network and allow us to test out ideas without having to bring the beta down.
Welcome to our first attempt to have a couple of testnets running in parallel!
Here we have an alpha network, where we want to verify changes before we do a full release that would be compatible with the existing network.
This is not expected to be a wildly long testnet. But participation here will help iron out any potential issues as/when we release new code compatible with BasicEconomyTweaks.
Major progress on my first Autonomi demo app today. I'm sooo happy 😄
This proves that all the tricky but essential parts work together, so now I can add features and improve the operation knowing that effort won't be wasted.
It also already shows that we can build cross platform apps (desktop and mobile) with a web front end that use the #Autonomi#Rust APIs using #Tauri and your web framework of choice. Which for me is #Svelte
Fügt dem F-Droid-Store über die Optionen die Paktquelle "https://fdroid.pixelfed.net/" hinzu, dann steht die App zur Verfügung bzw. taucht in der Liste installierter Apps auf.
There's a new testnet up now we’ve squashed some BadNode detection issues. This testnet adds in some basic detection of anomalous node behaviours, and aims to keep the network’s routing tables nice and tidy and neat.
Beyond that, the team has been continuing to push forward across many fronts!
The latest testnet adds basic bad node detection, as well as fixed some issues from node startups in the previous testnet.
On top of this, we’ve tweaked the storage pricing algorithm to increase more over time to see what impact this has on node storage/hypothetical demand.
Autonomi is the new name for the Safe Network. Download the new white paper that explains the whys and wherefores. Or if that's too much, there's a 40 second video too 😎
I'm a little late to this, but I feel the need to mention it because I feel like these people are just going to move to Telegram, if they already haven't.
Telegram is NOT a better alternative to Discord. It asks for your phone number (huge red flag), lies about being end-to-end encrypted (encryption is done server-side), is centralized, and not entirely FOSS (server-side software is closed source). Look into decentralized/self-hosted solutions instead.
I personally recommend hosting an XMPP server. Install an XMPP server stack that supports multi-user-chats and host your discussions there. With XMPP, you can sign up for an account on any server and talk to anyone, including people from other servers. There are even modernized web-clients like Movim which make it more user friendly.
For private/direct messages, you can also end-to-end encrypt them using OMEMO. Just don't use them for public MUCs or you will end up having problems. You really don't need to encrypt a public chat anyway.
If you need help running an XMPP server, Mental Outlaw made a video on it.
Are "hard links" important or a nice to have in a filesystem?
I'm trying to assess possible feature compromises for a #decentralized / #p2p based #filesystem that can be mounted on multiple machines, so any views on the usefulness of hard links with examples would be appreciated.
One such compromise here is merging of changes made from different devices, that will be much harder with hard linking.
An Invitation to what comes next (safenetforum.org)
It’s a big day for the project and for #MaidSafe, and we're inviting you to an event on Discord next Tuesday....
