"Google owns the world's most popular web browser, the world's largest advertising network, the world's biggest search engine, the world's most popular operating system, and some of the world's most popular websites. So really, Google can do whatever it wants."
I'm trying to #degoogle as much as possible. Gmail is the next on the hit list. I have my own domain using the legacy G-Suite. Any email providers I should check out?

Been enjoying using a Hisense A9. Without Google services, been discovering the world of Aurora Store and F Droid. With microG, apps think I have them, push notifications work and location is provided by Mozilla.
Now onward to move files, contacts and calendar to my own NextCloud server...
Sometimes people ask me how inconvenient is being a #privacy paranoid and avoiding spying corporate services. And of course they say they couldn't do the same, because they want convenience and everything Just Working™.
So for me being #corpfree isn't inconvenient itself. I don't even feel this. I didn't even feel it when I fully finished #degoogling.
But using #encryption is something I feel, when I have to repeat every step every time to access my stuff. And MFA - with not storing cookies and browser history it is real pain in the a** :blobCat_melt_cry:
Your phone tracks your location data, and you may want some #privacy . Of course you can switch off #GPS , but then you lose #navigation .
If you run #Android , I recommend @organicmaps that allows you to download maps of your region and navigate without telling anyone. It's of course #OpenSource .
If you like it but miss feature X, I recommend #OsmAnd. It does the same, and has features X, Y, Z, ξ, đ and щ.
And send some money to them and to #OpenStreetMap that supplies the maps!
To all the people who decided to #degoogle What are you using for precise informations about businesses around you? And for mapping? I realize that this is gonna be much harder than I thought!
@calyxOS, I'm having audio issues since the last update. I'm running the OS on a Pixel 4a (5g). I rebooted my phone to install the latest update yesterday afternoon. Audio does not work on videos from NewPipe, YouTube.com, antennapod, etc.
No audio comes through during calls. Speakerphone button defaults to ON and cannot be unselected. None of the other buttons are pressable.
Is this issue unique to me? What can I do to fix this?
For the #privacy conscious out there, which email providers do you prefer? I'm starting to near the point when I can #degoogle and replace Gmail with something else but I'm still undecided.
I'm mainly looking to get away from Google's scanning of inboxes, with a service that doesn't break the bank.
Tell me about your experiences, is Proton the way to go or are there some sleeper services out there that I've overlooked?
(Good desktop and android clients required, thunderbird support valued)
I want a usable de-Googled phone OS. I like /e/OS's Nextcloud integration, but CalyxOS seems to be more up-to-date (already on Android 13, where /e/OS is Android 12). CalyxOS also makes it easier to re-lock the bootloader.
@rysiek Android 13 for /e/OS is due to arrive any moment. I don not have CalyxOS experience, but /e/OS is a very very uasable daily driver for a de-googled phone!
It feels good to be taking charge of my digital life/wellbeing instead of putting it in the hands of big corporations that just seem hell-bent on owning everything.
Short of donning a tin-foil hat and going to live in the woods, it's practically impossible to completely isolate yourself from all vulnerability to data snoopers. However, there are some practical steps that anyone can take to improve things.
Soooo... I went through the last 3mo of my Gmail account to see which accounts still use it and I had to migrate 4 accounts.
Not 100% sure, but I think there is no account left using my gmail account. I don't need to delete it, but if the big G wants to block it... I wouldn't care lol.

Is infomaniak and their products like kDrive any good?
I've read some reviews saying and the consensus is that they suck for hosting....
