US Dist Judge Steve C. Jones for the Northern Dist of #Georgia had heard separate requests from both fmr WH Chief of Staff Mark #Meadows & #Trump-era #DOJ crony #JeffreyClark for an emergency order that would stop them from having to report to #jail….
Jones #denied both, saying in both instances that it was premature for him to rule.
#Meadows… asked the judge to force the halt pending a separate request… to remove his case to #FederalCourt. (He) …argued that (his)… acts… were protected by his status… as a federal ofcl (#SupremacyClause), & that that protection should also protect him from #arrest while the case is pending.
Judge Jones denied that request, saying that he had not yet made any decision about Meadows’ case. Therefore, he ruled, the state #criminal process — including Meadows’ arrest — would have to go ahead.
The RCMP said Wednesday it has received a referral from provincial police in Ontario to "investigate irregularities" in the Ford government's controversial Greenbelt land swap.
"We will review and assess the information received and will take appropriate action as deemed necessary," an RCMP spokesperson said in an email.
How about this? If #Republicans don't like the way we treat ordinary #criminal#defendants, what if we worked together to improve the way we treat ordinary criminal defendants? Wouldn't that be better than giving special treatment to wealthy, powerful defendants (the ones Rs call elites)?
It would have been more savvy for Trump to propose as late a date in the 2024 campaign calendar as reasonable, or perhaps just a smidgen beyond. But by proposing a date on the far side of bonkers, Trump has encouraged Judge Chutkan to ignore his papers as she picks the earliest date that gives him adequate time to prepare.
