#Kagan#dissent in student debt case: The most that can be said of theory majority selects, proffered solely by MO is that it is less risible than others. It still contravenes bedrock principle of standing law that plaintiff cannot ride on someone else’s injury. MI is doing just that in relying on injuries to MO Higher Ed Loan Authority a legally, financially independent public corp. That means Court by deciding this case, exercises authority it does not have. It #violates the #Constitution.
The new anti-gay ruling falsely dons First Amendment garb (the State cannot force someone to speak against their religious beliefs) when the decision really says business interests trump anti-discrimination laws, since the person wasn’t required to speak at all. #SCOTUS#LGBTQ
🧵I know I mostly toot about #Ukraine here, but the #SCOTUS has got me annoyed. More than they usually irritate me. People in my generation (elder #millennial), #GenX'ers, and #Boomers, mostly grew up with a court that's legacy was in many ways progressive. As a result, most folks respected & trusted the SCOTUS as an institution, especially when compared to the other branches of #government. #Watergate, #Clinton's #impeachment, & various #bribery & #misconduct scandals in #congress 1/n
It's not an accident that #reactionary forces in #USPolitics have spent decades and literally billions of dollars for the infrastructure to "recapture" the #Judiciary, especially #SCOTUS. #Liberal's, #Progressive's & esp #Democrats may be spooked by talk of major #reform or #amendment's to the #constitution because they seem #Radical, or somehow undermining the #court as an institution. Well the court is doing a fine job undermining the institution all by itself. 6/n
Volodymyr #Zelenskyy commemorates Hetman Pylyp Orlyk on Ukraine's Constitution Day
The document concluded in 1710, which went down in history as the #Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk, is considered the first European constitution in its modern sense.
It defines the concept of a free nation, the foundations of democracy and justice, and anti-corruption and social principles
”#Alito said that justices 'commonly interpreted' the #law’s exception for hospitality 'to mean that accommodations and transportation for social events were not reportable gifts.'”
A group of Democratic lawmakers has reintroduced a joint resolution to negate a clause in the 13th Amendment of the Constitution that permits slavery or involuntary servitude “as a punishment for crime.”
SO since there has not been a peep - I am guessing #SCOTUS is planning to hear The Student Loan frivolous cases just at the end of June when everything closes for the Fourth of July.
Does anyone know any different? If it is so, it's going to be another "Rule and Dash" against The Constitution. Right?
Just mere coinicidence Repugnicans came out with a "Student Plan plan" just now before they "ruled in June", right?
CA Gov. Gavin Newsom proposes 28th Amendment to the US Constitution in regard to gun ownership. He proposes:
1)Raising minimum age to purchase a gun to 21
2) Universal background check
3) Reasonable waiting period for gun purchase
4) Ban civilian purchase of assault weapons
#As part of my plan to secure the border on Day 1, I will sign an [EO] making clear... that under the correct interpretation of the law, going forward the future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic U.S. citizenship."
For those thinking "he can't do that; it's in the Constitution".... did that stop him last time?
NOTHING screams delusion like claiming to “counter #China” & the #CCP & defend #Taiwan — where #LGBTQ#Rights are enshrined in the #Constitution — LIKE aggressively championing:

My home city of #AuroraIllinois tried to back out of their contract to hold a #PrideParade in 2022, because parade organizers had asked officers in the parade route to not wear their uniforms. Some #BlueLivesMatter feelings were hurt, so a lot of officers tried to back out of providing security for the event (they were being paid overtime to provide the security).
With too few officers agreeing to provide security for overtime, the parade faced cancellation. After a great deal of local uproar in support of the parade, things were worked out last-minute. But the questions raised by the disagreement have since gone on to be a Federal Court case.
On Friday, a Federal Judge ruled temporarily in favor of the #Pride group hosting the event, saying that sections of the City's permit process likely violates the #Constitution. This ruling now allows this year's parade to go definitively forward.
Excellent article from Democracy Docket and Marc Elias.
We can't out-organize voter suppression. This is scary because what are the options?
Yes, organize. But we have to fight like our lives depend on it. We have to call it out as unconstitutional. We have to get rid of the politicians who are repressing us.
1/17 With the recent #coronation of #CharlesIII, there have been a lot of stories in the press talking about whether Canadians want to keep our traditional relationship to the British monarchy, or abandon it and choose a different head of state.
2/17 To get the obvious out of the way, I think there's virtually no chance of us changing our head of state anytime soon, because I believe it would require an amendment to our #Constitution, and no one is going to be able to get changes ratified by all provinces.
Also, you might listen to the episodes of the #AmericanOriginStories talking about the #US#Constitution and the Declaration of #Independence why this is not going to happen before virtually all states are Blue.
