We have a grass lawn (Im sorry 😢, my family like it) - my plan is to slowly seed it with more and more clover over the next few years - any tips apart from just scattering seeds etc. #clover #nolawn
Lawns use a lot of water. Native plants use a lot less water. Many native plants are beautiful flowers. They also help bees, which are endangered and upon whom are agricultural system and ecosystem depend.
Clover lawns also use a lot less water, require much less maintenance, and help bees.
I stalk #bees even when away from home. While Mom was having a bathroom break, I wandered into fields & saw tiny patch of red #clover blossoms. Then, saw a very determined #bumblebee who was so focused on their #pollination & feeding job that they were rather oblivious to my giant human presence. I got these wonderful photos 😍
Odd fasciated colts foot flower head spotted at the community garden today, dried regular flower head for comparison.
I know it can just happen spontaneously but I feel like I’ve been seeing a lot of fasciated flowers this year #fasciated#plants#weird#grass
I half mowed our front garden this weekend. I got a bit sad when I saw crickets fleeing everywhere and a ladybird that I’d nearly mowed over. (Insects are… not doing well locally.) So I just stopped. It has grown that much since June anyway.
I just went outside. It’s no hive of activity, but there are bugs flitting around and a couple of bees.
Turns out I hate convention regarding gardens and need to figure out how to deal with that for next year. Not sure entirely how.
And that you are experimenting with your front garden.
We have a mostly neglected front yard, here at our home in the Bay Area of California.
During an anniversary trip my spouse and I took to the north coast, at a hippie grocery, I once impulse-bought a kilo of clover seed. When we got home I planted it all across the yard.
It doesn't always look that good, but the bees and hummingbirds approve.
Fun fact you may already know, clover is a legume. That means they take nitrogen from the atmosphere and store it in little nodules on their roots to use as food. You can see those nodules here on the roots of some sweet clover. This is partly why having clover in your lawn is great. It's a free way to fertilize it without having to use the chemical stuff. #Gardening#Legumes#Clover
It’s those movements of a flower that we love to see here on The Bee Sanctuary of Ireland.
The flower twitch - which means there’s a bee busy.
The flower bow - which means it’s a big ‘un.
And finally the #flower bounce which means a successful launch!
Clover requires less water and fertilizer than grass; plus, it's magical looking.

"Clover is becoming popular because it looks magical but doesn't require as much care as regular lawns. Since it doesn't need fertilizer or much water, it's also good for the planet. Plus, it's tough.
"You don't need to water microclover as much as grass, and don't even think about using an herbicide on it. You can add fertilizer if you want, but clover is pretty good at keeping itself fertilized since it naturally pulls nutritious nitrogen out of the air." #Gardening#GardeningForPollinators#NoMowMay
