Thanks to the cyclist husband, TIL about Kittie Knox, a prominent biracial cyclist of the late 1800s. Her mother was white, her father was Black, and she spent her short 26 years on this planet breaking serious social, gender, and racial barriers.
"It was the seething, barely controlled anger of a Black woman put in a position none of her white male counterparts have had to endure, at the hands of a criminal defendant no less. White prosecutors have used the power of the law to torment Black people for centuries, but a Black woman becomes prosecutor and finds herself tormented by white criminal defendants."
On this day in 1972 Shirley Chisholm was nominated the Democratic presidential candidate. She was both the first Black person and woman to be nominated. She ran on the slogan “unbought and unbossed.”
With obvious challenges she called out her gender as the biggest, noting “…I met more discrimination as a woman than for being Black.”
Racist misogynist Trump delights in targeting Black women, from poll workers…
to congresswomen…
to district attorneys…
to a U.S. district court judge.
From being sued for housing discrimination in the early ‘70s to raping E. Jean Carroll in the ‘90s…
From stealing top secret classified gov’t docs to planning a coup, and inciting an insurrection to remain in power,
Trump is but vile, unAmerican, fascist scum.
I’m grateful to every Black woman who’s holding the bastard accountable. #BlackWomen
Lawrence O'Donnell tells it like it. As he notes, the folks blathering on about dumping Joe Biden (and, as he notes, by inference Kamala Harris) seem oblivious to the wishes of the constituency that delivered the White House to them — Black women.
O'Donnell puts his finger on something important here. I routinely get folks dropping taunting comments into my feed here about Biden being too old or dull or inactive.
