App idea: a word processor that doesn’t expose every single possible possible formatting option permanently in a huge top bar. Create headings, write text, mark important sections, insert images, and that’s it. Export as a PDF and move on. In contrast to a note taking app / markdown editor, this would actually be intended as a simpler and more focused alternative to #Word, #LibreOffice and such.
@bragefuglseth I have been thinking the same thing for a long time , so much so that at one point I thought of creating such an app myself.
In my experience, apart from university and some work documents, most people don't use but 3 percent of the functionality of #LibreOffice or #Word, and indeed find them complicated.
I find that what comes closest to this idea is #WordPress' Gutenberg editor and the new #Nextcloud WYSIWYG editor (which uses Markdown)
Writing documents in #TeXLaTeX is like travelling Europe without a map: There are fabulous places like Tropea, Liverpool or Alicante, though you'll probably not get there.
Using #WYSIWYG editors like #Word or #LibreOffice on the other hand is like visiting Berlin: There's much diversity, and you can quickly get anywhere – except outside the city.
Is there an #English#word that means "to make permanent?" Essentially, I need the word "permanentize" to exist, but evidently it does not. Surely another word exists in its stead?
Please #help! This problem has been vexing me for over three years (since I began tracking the way cities changed their street space during the pandemic and whether or not those changes were permanentized).
I'm currently taking a #TeXLaTeX course and have already learned why it's the best tool to write documents – namely because regular office apps like Microsoft #Word or #LibreOffice Writer don't support justified text alignment, custom line heights or auto-generated tables of content. 🤡
Listen web sites, If I wanted to install your app I would have installed it ... I would think with the amount of cookies you have you would understand that by now!
Niks externe tools. Gewoon wat je al hebt. #KIS
As a #linux user with #libreoffice and the normal dev tools, how can i access the metadata embedded in #MSWord files? I need to uncover the modification date of a particular document that I've received from a student.
Thanks to someone I follow and his post I boosted, in the nick of time I got this offer to upgrade Mac version Microsoft Office 2019 to 2021 with a “lifetime” key. New user with Mac or existing Mac user works fine. With tax and handling, just short of $35. To July 17 only. #Mac#MicrosoftOffice#Word
got to admit #Microsoft has impressed me, not just by how easy it is to cancel a Microsoft365 subcription, but that immediate cancellation WITH A PRO-RATED REFUND is now an option.
this makes me much less hesitant to activate (pay for) Word on those rare occasions when I need it.
@tantramar
Fun fact: you can create #Word docs through the #OneDrive interface without needing to have a paid for service. Note the interface is strictly through the browser, but if that works, then that works. #YMMV
The rate limiting on Twitter has impacted my day ... not at all. Because I'm pretty good not doing the socials on weekends. And pretty much nowhere near what I used to do since all the Twitter stuff happened. And that's been ... good! Like yeah, every little thing in my head doesn't need to be posted (yeah, I used to be like that). I feel more reflective, mellow, maybe more in the moment...
One but thing would be to improve #search on #mastodon so you don't have to #hashtag#every#word you want available for cross instance searching. And I know. I know. I know. All the reasons why some hate the idea of better Mastodon search. And yet, if new folks can't easily find things like people or interesting topics it's hard to get them sticking around.
