The new Amtrak route from Minneapolis to Chicago is finally here! The trip to Chi-town is not so different from Empire Builder, arriving at 7:15pm vs 4:45pm
But the return arrives in MSP at 6:30pm (not midnight, which my partner vetoed). Big difference!
Also, I didn't take the train last time to a funeral in Chicago because 25% of Empire Builders run 8+ hours late heading east(!) This new train should leave MSP relatively promptly
After weeks of record high temps and no snow on the ground for a month, winter returned to #Minnesnowta. May as well bring back some other #Minnesota memories with #HuskerDu#MaryTylerMoore.
An Indigenous elder and her dog need housing for about a week in the face of the incoming bad weather. This is from linda dot black dot elk on instagram. I don't know her personally or live nearby but wanted to share here in case anyone has options they can pass on to her. I can DM any contact info to linda from my instagram account if you don't have an account. https://www.instagram.com/p/C4tcJNmSJ03/ should be a direct link to the post.
Lyft and Uber decided to leave the Twin Cities, MN because they don’t want to share a slightly higher percent of their already ridiculous profits to make rideshares sustainable as a living for drivers. Now we’re getting an app that actually seems to want to make things better. Cut out the rot and let better things grow.
If you have noticed any city or other destruction of #houseless people's structures or possessions, or other disappearance or #displacement around the #twincities please @ us with whatever place/dates you remember.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. We typically refer to our region as "the Bay Area" as if that was actually a distinctive name.
Just out of curosity, what other places also refer to their region as "The Bay Area?"
I know of one and it's totally messed me up before because I used to travel there for work a couple of weeks a year. The DC, Virginia, Maryland region is also referred to as the Bay Area and they even have a "Bay Bridge" like us.
It was that they also had a Bay Bridge that truly messed me up when I was there. Being a West Coaster transported to the East Coast to a place that used the same terminology to refer to themselves, it felt like everything was upside down and I'd sometimes get confused as to which Bay Area people were referring to.

In that vein, I used to frequently visit Minneapolis/St. Paul, known as "the Twin Cities" as if that were unique, but surely there are other pairs of cities that are next to each other?
When you hear "Twin Cities", any particular pair comes to mind?
Seriously, #Minnesota? When does this become more than a temporary weather pattern, and more of a change in climate? This is not what January and February are supposed to look like.
We're working with Friends of the St Paul Chamber Orchestra on their Winter Lecture Series. We're doing website and tech.

Action Against Genocide Manufacturers in Mpls/Stp metro
"There are many corporations funding and supplying the genocide now. Instead of focusing on the almost total Minnesota governmental support of the genocide ... we want to single out those manufacturing in death and destruction: Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and General Dynamic"
If you enjoy or hate #Minnesota sports, follow Jon Marthaler. You'll often get his full take here on the Fediverse before you read it in one of the major Twin Cities newspapers.
