So it seems my Thinkpad T14 AMD Gen 1 is bricked somehow. No idea how it happened. LEDs and fan are working but I don' t get anything on the screen (internal and external).
Disconnecting batteries and using the reset switch doesn't help.
It seems like these are the typical signs for a bricked BIOS and I'm thinking about trying to reflash the SPI NOR on the mainboard.
Oh dear, why do such things happen when warranty has expired...
An IBM #thinkpad R51 has found it's way into my possession :blobcathappy: It doesn't have a charger though, and I can't yet confirm if it works or not. Anyone know about reputable third-party chargers, or even where to get a reasonably priced OEM?
Looking for #laptop recommendations. Photo-editing with 8GB ram has become too painful.
16GB ram is my only hard requirement, I have an external monitor and store my photos on an external hard drive.
Thinking about a new #framework, for repair - ability, or a used #thinkpad (?) to reduce e-waste. I Keep my laptops for 5+ years, with #Debian, so longevity is more important than flashy features.
For now I think I change over to my #ThinkPad as a daily driver.
I only rarely use my #Ryzen system to it's full potential.
Pretty much can boot it when I want to game or do something very CPU intesive - if the need arises.
Also, this will save me some energy.
Plus the Notebook is of course more agile and not bound to my desktop. 😎
HELP!!
My nine year old laptop is dying (falling to bits, wireless network flakey (probably a loose solder joint somewhere), screen needs the occasional clout).
I'm looking at a 7th generation 4K #Thinkpad#X1Carbon. Has anybody with one had any problems putting #Debian on it? Is there anything I need to watch out for?
Just in case anyone is interested or better still has some tips on my newly setup #VoidLinux#ZFSBootMenu laptop which is a #ThinkPad Gen 1 P14s AMD with 16Gb ram. But I'll be upgradeding shortly to the full 40Gb. Anyway here is the output of arc_summary and free -h . If I run btop it deducts the arc ram used so without that and running 17 tabs on #Qutebrowser and one foot terminal I'm using 2.62Gb but with free -h it shows as 6.5Gb which obvs is for zfs usage. #ZFS
Thought I'd share a quick screenshot of some of the stats of my newly setup #ThinkPad .
Yes I've used a large swap but that's what I had before and well I can afford the space.
Die letzten Wochen habe ich an einem Projekt getüftelt, welches gerade als MVP veröffentlicht wurde: ein #Blog und #Podcast über ThinkPads: https://thinkpad-museum.de
So this Christmas not only will I be merrily eating and drinking but I've decided I'm going to wipe my daily driver aka the #ThinkPad P14s Gen1 AMD and reinstall #VoidLinux . So this time instead of having an EFI boot partition and LVM encrypted swap and root. I'm going to have the usual EFI boot partition along with an un-encrypted swap partition and a fully encrypted #ZFS partition. Keeping the swap out of the zpool will allow me to use suspend to disk if I ever decided to use it.
