I wonder if B&Q ever considered how much their website harms their brick & mortar stores. I used to check the B&Q website before going to the store to see if they had what I want in stock, but now the website is a "market place", which means 95% of the stuff on there is never available in store - its mostly sold online and shipped by third parties. There's no way to filter out this crap, so now I can't check if I'll have a wasted journey, so I go to their competitors' stores instead.

@steve we did exactly this on Sunday. Wanted a new hosepipe. Was passing B&Q so thought I'd check the website before I left. Found what I wanted but it turned out it was delivery only. Found another and that too was delivery only. Drove straight past B&Q and went to Screwfix after checking their site and seeing exactly what we wanted and that it was in stock.
I hadn't realised, until you mentioned it, that they'd turned their website into a marketplace. I won't bother using it or them again.

Last thoughts of the season.
should have won - a better song and better sung.
deserved more points.
tried to make up for a so-so ditty with incredible staging, but I'm not sure the sweaty-sexy side of it worked well (but it could just be that it wasn't aimed at me).
were missed (the song, anyway, we'll see what has to be said about the singer)
was still my favourite and for bonus points the singer seems to be a nice person too.

A quick favour if anybody can help - I volunteer with a charity, Clothing Coventry (https://clothingcoventry.org/). They've just taken on a full-time administrator who needs a computer. I have a PC, keyboard and mouse, but I'm short of a monitor.
So.... Does anybody happen to have a monitor they don't need any more and they're happy to post to Coventry? Ideally 16:9 1080p minimum?
Your help would be very much appreciated.

If I'm following somebody and remember that they posted something within the last fortnight (which I failed to bookmark) and I know what one of the words was in their post, how on earth do I search for that post?
It can't be difficult, so I'm missing something obvious. Feeling grrr with myself.
Posting this here as I've given up and am hoping somebody will point me at the (no doubt blindingly obvious) button to click.

NAB,
@NAB@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@tony Hmm. That's what I thought but it's not working for me.
I can search for "from:@user", no problem. But searching for "from:@user keyword" returns no results - even if I look at one of their latest posts and can definitely see the keyword there.
Now, I've just tried exactly the same thing but with your username and the keyword 'click' and it's come back immediately with two results.
Is it possible the user's instance has disabled searching and I've been pointlessly banging my head on this?

A friend wants to use Splitwise to sort out who's paying what for a holiday. I've read their privacy policy and I don't like it one bit - "personal details used for advertising and may be passed abroad where anything can be done with them".
If it were up to me, then a shared spreadsheet would be fine, but I wondered if anybody knows of and can recommend a FOSS alternative?

This is the first Emperor moth of the year in our garden. He didn't get the memo about being dull and grey/brown did he?

Another 5 or so turned up soon after.

He flew in from the west, so somewhere between here (Cottenham) and Swavesey (where our local bird reserve is) there must be some heathland-type terrain with the larval foodplant, heather, perhaps in bloom, and the females awaiting their suitors.

I've been invited to apply for a market stall at . There's a number of interesting things I think I could sell there.

But they all involve me buying at wholesale price and selling retail price. Like, I get that's the way commerce works, but it also feels kind ofโ€ฆ I don't know how to explain. Rude?

If I buy 100 things at ยฃ10ea, assume I only sell 75% of them, plus VAT, plus credit card charges, then I have to sell for ยฃ16.50ea.

That doesn't account for my time or dealing with returns.

@CatherineFlick @Edent @byjp agreed, great idea. For small traders, profit is what puts food in their mouths and I'm all for openness and transparency about that.

Today is the last day of a dry month. I thought not drinking may help me break through the weight loss target I set last year. It didn't - it seems I don't drink enough for it to have made a difference.
So what has a dry month done for me? About the only thing I can put my finger on is it's made me more grumpy - I really missed sitting down with a decent glass of wine or pint of beer at the end of the day two or three times a week.
Ah well, I won't be making that mistake again - live and learn!

FYI my symptoms have been: sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, sinus pain and stuffiness, fatigue, cough (seems to be nasal drip related though), blocked ears, muscle soreness. Taste and smell still active! (Though diminished, but thatโ€™s probably because my nose is really stuffed up.)

For me and my wife, Lemsip every four hours really took the edge off. It was waking up at three in the morning with the worst sore throat I've ever had every day for a week that was the killer.
