"Even from both angles, the acquisition came as a bit of a surprise to Bordeleau, as Epic's presence over a company with grassroot support at its core was instantly questionable.
It's not just Epic either; an even larger shadow looms over Bandcamp -- Tencent."
They really are using capitalism to its fullest. It's basically impossible for western politicians to criticize that without being an obvious hypocrite, and they know.
#OrganicMaps is here. Use it while offline and feel good about a #privacy-respecting app that doesn't suck you dry of your personal information. Based on #OpenStreetMap this app is gonna blow #Google#Maps out of the water (hopefully ;)
... by #BigTech some time, if it's successful.
Also, if not everything is #FOSS, it cannot be further developed, if the devs cannot continue with the project for whatever reasons.
Then, there is #Viber, which is being used by many Eastern Europeans. No clue as 2 the security.
We don't need to talk about the global market leader #WeChat from #TenCent, I guess (pervasive spyware).
I'd be willing to copy and redraw the chart if privacy pros can provide the data r more apps.

#Cybersecurity#Encryption#Privacy#China#Tencent: "- We analyzed Tencent’s Sogou Input Method, which, with over 450 million monthly active users, is the most popular Chinese input method in China.
Analyzing the Windows, Android, and iOS versions of the software, we discovered troubling vulnerabilities in Sogou Input Method’s custom-designed “EncryptWall” encryption system and in how it encrypts sensitive data.
We found that network transmissions containing sensitive data such as those containing users’ keystrokes are decipherable by a network eavesdropper, revealing what users are typing as they type.
We disclosed these vulnerabilities to Sogou developers, who released fixed versions of the affected software as of July 20, 2023 (Windows version 13.7, Android version 11.26, and iOS version 11.25).
These findings underscore the importance for software developers in China to use well-supported encryption implementations such as TLS instead of attempting to custom design their own."

I think we're all, me included, focusing too much on #Musk and his destroying #Twitter and not enough on the people who financed his purchase of it in the first place.
Peter Thiel, who openly states democracy is not a viable form of government in his mind, bankrolled this despite knowing Musk is a hack.
In fact, Musk's first big cash gain was Thiel paying Musk to leave PayPal lest he, Musk, destroy it with his terrible ideas, especially his fixation on an "X" app.
#Elmo is moving ahead with his grand design of "X", the "everything app".
What you say is true, but is part of a much bigger story.
To remember:
"And there’s the matter of “X,” Musk’s proposed “#EverythingApp.” It’s been floated as a response to [#Tencent's] #WeChat, #China’s ubiquitous app, that’s come to dominate both payments and the social sphere. Supposing such an app starts to take on the task of..."

"...The recent takeovers of #CNN and #HBO have prompted similar questions about why they were targeted for purchase, and the changes being made there. None of these moves makes very much sense if you’re looking backwards...
