Harry Patch was the last surviving combat soldier who fought in the trenches during World War I. He died in 2009 at the age of 111.
Patch compared the experiences of war to seeing “hell upon this Earth.”
As a fan of Radiohead right from the jump (MINUS Hail To The Thief), this was the last Radiohead album that left me fully satisfied.
I still believe it’s their last truly GREAT album.
I still loathe The King Of Limbs, and find A Moon Shaped Pool far too disjointed & laborious, even by Radiohead standards.
This is so satisfying front to back; enough flashes of the old Radiohead I fell in love with.
I switched servers just under a week ago so I figured I should do a proper #Introduction post. I’ve been on Mastodon since 2017 but never actually written a proper intro!
My name’s Sally Monster (she/her) and I’m a British northerner who immigrated to Southern California a bit over a decade ago because I fell for guy named Viss on Flickr after he posted a photo of a #HalfLife HeadCrab he made out of bread!
I’m a bit of a #KitchenWitch at heart; sharing #Food with people I love gives me a sense of wellbeing. I believe wholeheartedly in BenGingi’s motto, “We are all bread.”
I’m happiest when I have soil under my finger nails, I have a favorite tree, I talk to birds, I chase creepy crawlies and I love growing weird and wonderful #Plants especially #CarnivorousPlants and #SpicyPeppers.
I love it here on Mastodon. I have met so many amazing people here and I am so grateful for this community. Sending love and hugs out to all of you. 💚 🧡
I bet somebody posted this already for @Kitty 's #TuneTuesday#CircleRoundSongs edition, but I don't care. This song is so beautiful, especially the live piano version, it cannot be shared enough:
Calling all Radiohead fans, how do you rate the Hail To The Thief album?
I remember listening to it when I was going through a really tough time as a postgrad. #radiohead#music
Hi everyone! I’m #newhere, again! I had an account before but the server musician.social was on accidentally got wiped. So here’s a little #introduction: I like talking about #music and #culture, especially that of the #80s and #90s. My own music has more of a #00s feel since that was when I first started writing. #björk, #toriamos and #radiohead are my greatest influences and I’d say my material falls into the #artpop genre.
I’m currently recovering from #longcovid and learning #finalcutpro.
18 years ago I created the world’s first open-source music video, using a vintage 1979 Apple ]+ computer. Here’s how I made “Jed’s Other Poem” for Grandaddy’s song of the same name: https://stewartsmith.io/work/jed
“But it was just a laugh, just a laugh
Just a laugh, just a laugh
Even at this angle
And so we crumble
A ten ton head, made of wet sand
This dread circumference
You gotta be kidding me
The grass grows over me
Your face in the glass, in the glass
It was just a laugh, just a laugh
It's whatever you say it is
Split infinity”
