Israel denounced the move as giving aid to its enemy #Hamas.
The coordinated announcements are purely symbolic — but not w/o some power.
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz ordered the immediate recall of the Israeli ambassadors to #Spain, #Ireland & #Norway. “I am sending a clear message today: #Israel will not be complacent against those who undermine its sovereignty & endanger its #security.”
The #UnitedStates govt reiterated its position that recognizing a #PalestinianState was premature & must be the result of direct negotiations between Israel & the #Palestinians.

#FarhanHaq, a #UN spokesperson, said the new smaller numbers reflected those bodies which had been fully identified. The bigger figures included corpses for whom identification has so far not been completed.
The Jordanian monarchy supports the establishment of a #PalestinianState. While some right-wing politicians in #Israel have envisaged #Jordan becoming an alternative Palestinian state, #KingAbdullah has repeatedly warned that there is no such thing as a "Jordan option."

What a bizarre conversation. OP claimed that the Palestinian Authority is not related to the State of Palestine using #Wikipedia as a source, then I pointed out that the president of the PA and SoP are the same, and even Wikipedia says that the PA has pretty much become synonymous with the Palestinian state in 2013 when the PA has directed that all official documents it produced is to be marked under the name "State of Palestine". Then he (yes I checked) accused me of not supporting Palestinian statehood "based on my attitude towards the PA" without any receipts.. and I have never said anything of that sort here? :SanaeConfuzzled: And of course #blocked me so I couldn't reply (or even quote post). :reimu_sigh:

Oh dear, looks like all those one state experts were wrong. Spain will recognize the State of Palestine by July. I understand Ireland is likely to follow suit.

It's time to move beyond Netanyahu's obstruction of a #TwoStateSolution which he obviously doesn't intend.
Maybe it's time to recognise a #PalestinianState - with imprecise borders and under occupation (incl by Hamas). Recognise the PA, but with a requirement for elections before year end.
CBS Radio News has been playing a clip, off and on all day, of my United States Senator, Bernie Sanders, saying that Israel has a right to defend itself and to respond to the horrific terrorist attack from Hamas, but it does not have a right to wage war against an entire people.
It is not new. This comes from his US Senate website.

A type of detente is needed between Israel and a Palestinian state and none of it is going to happen as long as Benjamin Netanyahu sits atop Israel's government.
