...both critics and right-wing allies indicate that 👉the support was intended to help maintain divisions between the #PalestinianAuthority and #Hamas👈, weakening #Palestinian leadership and 👉bolstering the claim that #Israel had no viable negotiating partner for a two-state settlement.👈 The policy was premised on the flawed assumption that 👉#Hamas had neither the capacity nor the intent to launch a...
After 75 years of failure, one would imagine that a people would learn what works and what doesn’t, both from their own experience, as well as the experience of others.
#Palestinians had, for the first time, an elected government, a representative assembly, passports, stamps, an international airport, an armed police force, and other trappings of what was in every sense a state in the making 👀
What a bizarre conversation. OP claimed that the Palestinian Authority is not related to the State of Palestine using #Wikipedia as a source, then I pointed out that the president of the PA and SoP are the same, and even Wikipedia says that the PA has pretty much become synonymous with the Palestinian state in 2013 when the PA has directed that all official documents it produced is to be marked under the name "State of Palestine". Then he (yes I checked) accused me of not supporting Palestinian statehood "based on my attitude towards the PA" without any receipts.. and I have never said anything of that sort here? :SanaeConfuzzled: And of course #blocked me so I couldn't reply (or even quote post). :reimu_sigh:

"The United States has called for a revitalized PA to administer postwar Gaza ahead of eventual statehood.
Israel has rejected that idea, saying it will maintain open-ended security control over Gaza and partner with Palestinians who are not affiliated with the PA or Hamas. It’s unclear who in Gaza would be willing to take on such a role."
This reminds us that #policing - in #SettlerColonial societies like Canada - has always been a central force for dispossession, displacement & containment.
Boucher confirmed “the relationship between #PalestinianAuthority security forces & the co-ordination with the Israeli Defense Force is happening on a 24/7 basis right now”.

#CAIRO — After a long journey from #Gaza, more than 100 American citizens and their families have entered #Egypt through the #RafahCrossing. Jonathan Webster, the #USEmbassy in Cairo's consul general, said some of those families are telling him they ran out of food and water during their journeys. #Israel
Both #Israel and the #US have ruled out a return to a #Hamas-controlled #Gaza and (..) agree that Israel will not govern the territory (..) The allies differ on what happens next, with Washington insisting that the goal of the war (..) must also be to work toward a two-state solution.
#Netanyahu’s office has released a statement saying (..) that “talk of decisions to hand over the Gaza Strip to the #PalestinianAuthority or any other party is a lie.”
As #Biden’s trip to Israel was being planned — a 1st for a US pres… — it was decided that #POTUS should also travel to #Jordan, where he would meet w/King #Abdullah II. Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-#Sisi & Mahmoud #Abbas, pres of the #PalestinianAuthority in the #WestBank, would also travel to #Amman, Jordan, for the meeting, where Biden planned to emphasize his concern for the #Palestinians & efforts to get #HumanitarianAid flowing into #Gaza.
@indianewswatch An illegitimate alibi for suppressing #Palestinians and attempting their continued annihilation in an OBVIOUS Land Grab... even as they offered up the US military trained... and ARMED, "#PalestinianAuthority".
President #Biden spoke w/President Mahmoud #Abbas of the #PalestinianAuthority on Saturday afternoon, the #WhiteHouse said in a readout of the call.
“President Biden condemned #Hamas’ brutal attack on #Israel & reiterated that Hamas does not stand for the #Palestinian people’s right to dignity & self-determination,” the WH said.
The State Dept said Sat that 29 #Americans have died in the Hamas attack on Israel & subsequent violence, & that 15 US citizens & 1 US permanent resident are missing.
Hamas’s ruthless & spectacular attack on Israel last Sat was many things: an atrocity, a display of militant ingenuity, & a demo of the weakness of #Israeli intelligence & defenses.
(It) has made #Gaza a virtual open-air prison—run by particularly vicious inmates but surrounded & contained on all sides by guards.
#Hamas evidently decided to destroy that status quo, which was no longer serving its interests. The…group also hopes to seize control of the #Palestinian national movement from its secular #Fatah rivals, who dominate the #PalestinianAuthority &, importantly, the Palestine Liberation Org, …the internationally recognized representative of the Palestinian people.
