Blocking somebody? Baller move. You’re in charge of your account. You decide who has access to you.
Telling someone, “I’m blocking you for that!” immediately before blocking them? Baby move. Your dysfunctional obsession with getting the last word in is showing.
You make a good point, and I may change how I deal with hostile and lecturing people. Once I feel like a block is necessary I usually hashtag it #blocked so folks reading the thread know that I cut off further communications. I often look at the profile of people others have announced they’re blocking to decide if I should proactively block a troll. It’s like telling a neighbor, “Guy across the street is an angry screamer. You may want to stay off his lawn.”
X has #blocked the account of @KhaledBeydoun on its platform in India.
Software Freedom Law Centre, India (SFLC.in) has been reporting on the blocking of social media accounts and #websites. Please #report any blocking cases you may have seen to us.

What a bizarre conversation. OP claimed that the Palestinian Authority is not related to the State of Palestine using #Wikipedia as a source, then I pointed out that the president of the PA and SoP are the same, and even Wikipedia says that the PA has pretty much become synonymous with the Palestinian state in 2013 when the PA has directed that all official documents it produced is to be marked under the name "State of Palestine". Then he (yes I checked) accused me of not supporting Palestinian statehood "based on my attitude towards the PA" without any receipts.. and I have never said anything of that sort here? :SanaeConfuzzled: And of course #blocked me so I couldn't reply (or even quote post). :reimu_sigh:

President #Biden will announce a new effort on Monday to reduce or eliminate #student#loan#debt for millions of borrowers,
an attempt to revive his goal of providing large-scale relief for Americans struggling to pay off their college loans, a person familiar with the plan said Friday.
Mr. Biden is expected to preview new regulations by the Education Department targeting millions of borrowers,
including those whose loans have ballooned because of accrued interest and others who can demonstrate financial hardship impeding repayment.
The proposed regulations are set to be published over the next few weeks.
Mr. Biden will speak about the effort during a visit to Wisconsin on Monday, which will coincide with an event on student loans with Vice President Kamala #Harris in Philadelphia.
The push is a recognition by Mr. Biden and his allies of the disappointment felt by his supporters
— especially young voters
— when the president’s first attempt to wipe out student debt was #blocked by the #Supreme#Court last summer.
The court said that the government exceeded its authority under federal law when it attempted to cancel up to $400 billion in student loans.
At least once a week, I’ll see the stub of a convo and discover someone I never engaged with has #blocked me.
What is the German word for the sensation of discovering you briefly lived rent-free across someone’s firing synapses and then disappeared from their mental model of the universe like a fart in the wind?
Right, #blocked folks can still read your posts if they want to (they get curious?) from a webage and they have not signed into their mastodon account.
So, no need to explain to potential negative posters or give them more evident, just tell em, "read my posts from a web browser bro, if you get curious"
If you have to go through the steps to UNBLOCK someone, just to post a dramatic/toxic/hateful/mean/harsh message to someone, then you need to seriously consider getting a better grip on your life as you're truly a sad individual.
Your comments give me the impression you didn't even look. I'm not doing the #sealion thing with you. This stuff is production grade, in production--make your own evaluation on how to set thresholding, etc..
So, here's a problem I have with Mastodon: let's say I make a post and someone replies with a racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic comment. I can block the commenter, but that only hides it for me. Other people who come to my page will see the comment, and believe that I tacitly condone that behaviour. I'd like to be able to delete the reply from my replies list entirely. Or at least hide replies from blocked accounts. And, yes, I know that wouldn't delete it from the originating server.
NOTE: Mosseri does not have any presence on any Mastodon that I have been able to find
Some slight-of-hand is being performed and a search for the three "official" Threads profiles will show up in a browser tab, but look at the URL bar
Some magic is being performed, and it points to Mosseri @ Threads via --> my <-- instance
So I'd say the Threads devs have found a way to respond to a search on a Mastodon instance with a link to a Threads web page
Note that replies here do not show up over there on Threads
What's even more interesting is that Threads has been open web pages ever since that first countdown clock rolled over and became a QR code when Threads went live back in july
Multiple friends have been reporting that their #instagram posts in support of #palestine are being #blocked, and their stories are being banned.
I'm wondering if anybody on Mastodon has ideas on how to add to the motivation to depart from the platform, as the politics of the parent company are now clearer than ever. I never personally used Instagram, so I don't know what the appeal is, apart from the network and community that is present there.
Pixelfed seems to be doing tons of work to support migration of user content, but it won't work if it doesn't happen in mass.
These friends are trying their best to use their platforms to speak up about the awful injustices and unequal powers in #Gaza that are behind the genocide. They are keen to point out the colonial histories there, but are finding it hard to see what role the platforms play and why they are being banned. What can I do to help them depart, or what other ideas should I consider? Their current forms of digital resistance involve breaking keywords (like writing Palest<3ine) but these techniques are now also being caught.
