Ohio House leaders rushing to approve Biden ballot fix
The DNC nomination is scheduled after the long-standing deadline.
The law would create an exception to allow presidential and vice presidential candidates to be certified by their respective political parties after Ohio’s deadline (which generally requires certification 90 days before the election), so long as the parties notify the Ohio Secretary of State that they will be late. #USPol#OHPol#Ohio

Ohio lawmakers err in attempt to fix Biden ballot problem #USPol#OHPol#Ohio
"Ohio lawmakers have joined together to fix the state’s obscure law that would have prevented President Joe Biden from being on the November ballot — but there is one problem. Seemingly unbeknownst to the lawmakers, they only gave themselves until Thursday to get this signed into law."

Imprisoned GOP Ohio Speaker Larry Householder files appeal, says bribe payment was within First Amendment rights
He took $61 million in bribes in exchange for legislation to give FirstEnergy a $1 billion bailout, named H.B. 6, all at the expense of the taxpayers
HB6 was to provide subsidies to shore up the state's two uncompetitive nuclear power plants & for two coal-fired power plants & repeal of mandated energy efficiency, later still in effect.
Ohio #transgender candidate disqualified for only including legal name, not former name, on petitions
A law going back to the 1990's require former names, if changed within the last 5 years, except if because of marriage. Not only is there nowhere to put it on the petition, but it isn’t included in the secretary of state’s 2024 candidate guide. #Ohio#Trans#USPol#OHPol#election2024
While most Ohioans were getting ready to ring in the new year, a coalition of voting rights advocates got some bad news. The Republican attorney general rejected their ballot proposal that would’ve enshrined several voting protections in the state constitution. #VotingRights

"Governor, you must know - from the science, which says that trans healthcare saves lives; or from your own convictions about equal treatment under the law - that this bill is wrong and discriminatory. It simply does not deserve to become a law.
But even the practical considerations are bad: This law will be an expensive albatross around Ohio's neck until it is eventually overturned. It will lead to the state "brain drain" Missouri is experiencing now, as a result of our own terrible trans healthcare ban.
Please veto HB68. It is a life and death matter for transgender Ohioans."
Alarming “2nd Amendment Preservation Act”: “The bill’s chief proponent is the absolutist gun rights org, Ohio Gun Owners. Its leader, Chris Dorr, described the AR-15 as ‘the American rifle that we all own as a final check & balance on tyrannical government.’ Dorr deems the bill “a response to federal authorities attempting to limit access to the weapons.” #ohio#guncontrol#OHpol
Ugh. This 'Vote yes on #Issue1' commercial featuring the 'Do your own research' qanon nurse airing in the Cincinnati market on Sinclair stations gives me the chills.
Good news out of Ohio, but it’s not over. Vote NO on Issue 1 in the August 8 election.
Issue 1 would require a supermajority, rather than a simple majority, in order to amend the state constitution. Amendments, for example, like protecting reproductive rights.
Now that it appears #Issue1 may be defeated due to early voting turnout, #Ohio Republicans promote mail-in, early voting after opposing mail-in and even going so far as to pass laws to make it extremely harder to vote by mail.
I guess they want those votes after all.
Republicans in Ohio used to be for mail-in until 2020. #USPol#OHPol
