@scottsthoughts asks this question about interactions with drivers as they're organizing a training for a large group ride:
Q7. How, as a group, should we handle possible negative driver interactions? Has anyone had experience with an effective group policy for managing potentially hostile cyclist-driver interactions?
(And if not in a large group, have you received any helpful guidance, or do you have your own best practices?)
@MartyCormack@ascentale@scottsthoughts This is a reason why I am glad to live in Germany. Don’t get me wrong. There is motorized violence as well, drivers trying to force you off the road using their cars as weapons, crashing into you, but it is very unlikely to be shot.
@DrTCombs That's just absurd, and the fact that the #NHTSA does not demand #CrashCoimpatibility with every kind of traffic participant is outrageous...
Also not LED Headlights are the problem, but misaligned Lights designed to flash and blind other traffic participants and #SuperUselessVehicles that are just #MotorizedViolence...
@wonka@MaryMarasKittenBakery it's not as if one gets literally targeted with #MotorizedViolence for driving exactly 50km/h inside city limits or honked at for not overtaking cyclists when doing so would be dangerous to anyone.
Decarbonising road transport - Lighter vehicles make a big difference
"Currently, a large diesel SUV typically emits a kilogram of CO₂ for every 3 kilometres of driving, compared to 15km for a light electric vehicle and 200 kilometres for an e-bike. An average electric vehicle currently emits 1kg of CO₂ every 7km."
"Australia is on track to miss the net-zero target for 2050 mainly because of the large proportions of fossil-fuelled vehicles and large and heavy passenger vehicles."
It’s amazing how my city deploys police to address non-criminal societal problems, but when it comes to the problem of stopping drivers from killing people, the solution is “let’s put up some posters.”
Personally, I'd refuse to use #dooringzone strips most streets in #Germany have because they only invite #car drivers to exercise #MotorizedViolence and commit illegally tight overtake maneuvers.
After all, those strips are too narrow to be legally useable [minimum distance to curbstone is 80cm - measured from edge of steering arm.
That's why I consequently drive on the left half of a lane if on two weels and refuse to take over a cyclist if that would not be safe!
@sigi714@straphanger that's because Tanks ain't #MotorizedViolence in the sense of Are Denial for other traffic, but need that visibility since all of them are susceptible to human-portable explosives, IEDs and amred vehicle hijacking attempts in a warzone.
